With it being almost 5 years since the 9/11 attacks, I felt that the poem my husband wrote just a few days after the attack needed to be shared:

My Hall of Heroes
By: Dale Norman, Tennessee

What makes a Hero?
Some say the bravest Soldier.
The one who leads the charge,
The one who saves the day.

What makes a Hero?
Some say the bravest Fireman.
The one who runs into danger,
The one who pulls the victims from diaster.

What makes a Hero?
Some say the bravest Policeman.
The one who stops the criminals,
The one who serves and protects.

These are all Heroes.
They are joined by the EMT's.
They are joined by the selfless Volunteers.
These are all Heroes.

But, My Hall of Heroes is filled,
With Mom and Dads,
With Brothers and Sisters
With Friends and Strangers.

They went to work on 9/11.
They boarded the planes on 9/11.
They never knew. They are
My Hall of Heroes

I will never forget the day we lost so many. these people I did not know personally, but all the lives lost and found are all important for the world to be recognized.

Peace to all,
Beth

I’M STILL WOUNDED, MY AMERICA
          By
        Jim O’Keefe

  - in honor of the victims of 9/11-

    I’m still wounded, My America
On the anniversary of 5 years
    3,000 people murdered
And a nation paused in fear

My heart still hurts for all those souls
And the pain lies deep inside
For the many friends and loved ones
    Who never said “good bye”

We still endure this national wound
From all the suffering of that day
When we saw the selfless acts of many
And the fire/police who never strayed

I will always shudder when I think
Of the evil that filled the skies
Our hearts were gripped with anger
And our lips kept asking, “Why”

I’m still haunted by the memories
Of those “terrorist” thoughts that seem
To keep our love for all mankind
    Outside the realm of dreams

But we must believe, My America
That love and peace is all we need
The wounds of 9/11 will heal one day
If the “God of all” can take the lead

I was shocked at the night in Nepal when I Got the news of the 9-11 attack as the next day was the last date of my training in the Royal Nepalese Military Academy. The day will be remembered through out my life for ever and ever. Let all the souls that passed away rest in peace

As a nation you stood tall
Whilst you watched your 'towers' fall
We felt for you from far away
On that tragic, fateful September day
I for one shall not forget
your heroes I have never met
Life will go on, you won't be beat
You will get back upon your feet
Lessons must be learnt from this
Nothing can be gained from fists

God Bless you all x

Post your memorial thoughts:

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy in New York City. Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. The sponsors of this site are paying all expenses, and are thereby keeping the site free from advertising that would take away from the solemnity of the purpose. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE! Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
