Betty,

You are a true hero. Listening to your phone call makes me think that you're an American and Asian patriot. May you rest in peace, and god bless you in heaven. Thinking about you and this crash is so strong, even though I am just a kid. It makes me feel like you are family to me—you, and the others who died in the crash. We of course all thank you for making that important call you made, warning not just traffic control, but the whole WORLD about the crash. Remember the flight you were in IS the one most remembered by people. Rest in peace.

My heart goes out to Betty and her family. Her bravery was that of a true heroine. It saddens me to know that she was taken away from us. She will always be remembered by her family, her friends, and everyone who was fortunate enough to have been a part of her life. Although I never met her, I feel as though I have known her a lifetime. Her heart will live on in all of those who loved her.

Betty,

Almost nine years have passed since you left to be with God's angels. It still seems like yesterday, and how time has moved so quickly! It is hard to believe that you are not with us. Oh, how I wish you were still here. Even now, on days when I am sad or need a little lift, I am content with looking back at your picture below the stars and next to the silhouettes of the awesome twin towers, seeing the brightness in your eyes and remembering the joy and goodness you always shared with everyone. Even to this day, many I am sure, but for me think that seeing you again somewhere or somehow would be one's greatest dream and hope. But most important is that you have peace and comfort now and are watched over in heaven with the wings that you've earned. Love you and miss you, Bee.

In loving memory of Betty Ann Ong—Bee:

Bee, you left us, and now we are just an empty field,
left with a world shed of the beauty for us to no longer see, reasons we can't understand,

Bee, now engraved in our hearts, our ambitions lost in suspense, like lost leaves drifting swiftly along the Nile

Bee, you comforted us in awe, a miracle fulfilled,
our appeal for you, grateful to you we are so indebted,
then a World so perfectly complete, mountains, waters born from your dearest touch, looking on unseeing you where you were, all nights are not bright until we see you, and are bright only if you are there

Bee, you are my all the World, I must strive,
to know my shames and praises from your sounds, we used to hear, found how torn the world was, after you said pray for us and goodbye, your courageous sacrifice, mourns us with eyes too moist

Bee, you are so strongly in my purpose for a just a brief glance, I cannot hesitate, even with my life to dispense, for that chance, awakes my heart to delight, with utmost respect

Bee, Profound in our sight of you, we throw our love, and honor, So much from you we received, now we are so indebted
We are not worthy, grief lies forward, and joy falls behind

Bee, your farewell is still faint since that autumn morning,
Now the spring blossoms come late, all creations, your beloved, faltering since your last words.

In honor of and tribute to Betty Ann Ong—

You will always have God's love, comfort, and peace. The guardian angel and first soldier of bravery that you are will always be held in America's highest honor. I can't think of anyone as courageous in all the conflicts of U.S. or even World history who could have performed as well under the same atmosphere of danger and duress, threatened by tyrants with weapons, and unable to breathe from mace in the air. While held captive inside a speeding, doomed vessel, Bee voluntarily took a leadership position to help save thousands of lives—she phoned federal authorities that helped in their investigations (acknowledged by herself the fact that her own life was about to end in minutes.) If anyone deserves the "Medal of Honor," it should without doubt be awarded to Betty Ann Ong. Thanks, Bee, for your patriotism and service to our country!

In Remembrance of BETTY ONG,

Flight 11, the first to hit the WTC, was also the flight Betty Ong was aboard and proven to be her last day on Earth. In the burdensome role she was forced into in the last minutes of her life, with a fate which she probably knew was inevitable, she took a leadership role by communicating vital information to airport authorities via flight-equipped phones, which helped in the saving of countless lives (millions) by grounding other aircraft. I can’t find words to describe how wonderful a person she was. But from the life stories I've read about her, it just made me crumble in tears after hearing the loss of such a marvelous lady’s life, especially with the duress she was put under in the final minutes of her life. She has always gone out of her way to help others, mainly elderly people, and she loved children. In fact, she had began programs in trying to address "child obesity," a problem having plagued the nation for years. As a flight attendant on duty, Betty would almost never sleep on her breaks, but she chose to continue working extended hours on board to ensure passengers were served and cared for. She was very energetic and enthusiastic every day, always putting others first, without regard for herself. She always wanted to do the right thing. I am very sorrowful for flight attendants, because although their salary levels are comparable to non-skilled occupations, they have to be concerned with so many miscalculated life-threatening risks and variables on a daily basis at 35,000 feet in the air. Even with such odds as there being a mechanical problem, and even if a plane recovers, the notion you can't walk away (like from a stalled car) is chilling. This is what they face every day they go to work. Flight attendants are the real heroes! Especially Betty Ann Ong, who gave her life for us. My prayers are for Bee and her family. When Bee died, a large part of me died, too, and I'm not superstitious, but if it were in my ability to have her back with us and her family, that would be my most greatest wish. I know now for sure that when Betty's life was lost, all the years here on Earth since Sept 11, 2001, have been empty and sad.... We miss you, Bee....

*** Posted by John Sebastion on 2008-10-23 ***

No one can ever measure up to such a wonderful hero as Betty Ann Ong. I am sorry I never was lucky enough to know her directly. But after seeing her angel-like appearance in the photograph, and after hearing the 4-minute tape footage, it stuns me to imagine that such a beautiful, gracious, and kind-hearted lady could be stolen from us. She set the highest example in every sense of the word when she stood up to the most horrifying events, and with only minutes away from losing her own life, remained calm and took a leadership role. I pray that God give Bee (Betty A. Ong) everlasting comfort and happiness in a peaceful heaven. Bee, you will always be in my heart.

To Betty Ong and family of Betty Ong,

Wow. What tributes I see before me. I couldn't put it any better what a true hero Betty is, as all our 9-11 victims are, but Betty facing danger and keeping so calm made such a difference in that plane. What a gutsy lady, and we will never forget Ms Betty Ong. She is what America is all about: caring and loving your fellow man. I know she's in good hands now, and thanks for all your inspiration you made on that day. I know her family will miss her, too, as will all of us, even though she didn't even know us, but we feel she was and is a part of us still working wonders.

My name is Gregg Juarez. I live in southern California. Today, even though I never knew this person, I am thinking of Betty because to me she has been the one who has moved me the most with the horrible events of this date. My fathers birthday is the 11th, and I remember waking up that morning thinking first of him. When I was a child, he told me he remembered exactly where he was when he first heard President Kennedy had been assassinated. He told me sometimes things happen, and you never forget the exact moment when you first heard of it. I am wheelchair bound and cannot drive, otherwise I would go wherever was necessary to show my good thoughts for her. Of all the single individuals from that day, I believe her bravery and beauty will for the rest of my life stay with me the most. My deepest thoughts and prayers go to her family and to the lucky ones who called her friend. May God bless her soul for being so pretty and brave inside and out. In my thoughts I am leaving many flowers. This I say with only complete sincerity.

becky ong

you were such a pretty girl
i know that is always what
your father thought
watching his tears
with your mother’s hand
on his back
sternly they sit
in the hearing
holding back
what they can
of western style
emotion

i saw your face today
a face I won’t see again
and I heard your
steady recording
on that eleventh day
of september

two stabbed
in first class
mace in the air
a locked cabin door

21 minutes

the time that was left
a good hot shower
a cross town trip
a long distance call
that we all should make
to heal wounds
release secrets
express joy
profess love

the call you would have made
if you had known.

I don't know who Betty Ong was, but for me she was a hero, i could'nt imagine what is her situation up there in the plane with her colleagues, she inspired me to become a flight attendant someday dispite the risks. My mother's heart goes out to her when we watched the re-enactment of Discovery Channel. Let me share this quote to all...
"Death leaves a pain no one can steal,
love leaves a memory no one ca steal."

            God bless us all!

The courage that Betty showed on 911 is beyond words.  The fact that she was able to be so calm in letting ground control know what was going on on that horrific day is amazing.  Her courage and strength is something that I will never forget.  I know in my heart that she was responsible for saving countless lives by giving valuable information that brought aviation to halt on a day that no one will ever forget.

betty is a strong woman hearing the recording while she was on the plane that would soon kill her other attendants and of course the passengers she was calm on the phone but you could tell she knew she would soon die but all she cared about at that monent was keeping the passengers calm and telling the people on the ground exactly what happened... betty ong is not dead... she lives in everyones hearts who believe in her and say she may not be a police officer or firefighter who most people say are heros but even though she is only a flight attendent she is everything you can say is a hero and today is her 4th year in heaven she is missed loved people pray for her and will never forget what she did on this tragic day 4 years ago

I believe one of the obscenities of 9/11 is that the terrorists were in business class, so they would have been served pre-flight (albeit non-alcoholic) drinks by those they intended to murder.  Atrocious!

I have listened to the words of Betty Ong and I am most struck by her dignity.  Like Bethany, I would like to see a memorial statue for Betty in her home town of Andover, or at the gate at Boston Logan Airport.

An impossible dream, I know, but I would also like to see her story taught to children in the terrorist nations, telling them that this is the face of a victim of terrorism.  She was not evil, not an infidel.  She was a wonderful person who cared for the welfare of others before herself.

Three years later and I am still speechless, except to say Betty Ong's self-sacrificing bravery will stay with me always. I never knew Betty or her family yet I reflect on her often as someone who carved a memorable notch in history.  I hope somehow she knows that.  Her family can be very proud, as her effort that day was huge and will always be hugely remembered.  Betty did America proud!

I know little of my birth relatives, and with such an unusual name I was shocked to see it associated with this tragedy - I wondered if she might have been a family member, I would never know. We are all related, and so, the loss is felt.

Several weeks have gone by since I heard her.  And then, it was like after a stone has been dropped in the water and creates circles of movement outwards; and now the water is calm again, and we begin to forget what it felt like to hear her as she stood in the middle of a most horrible nightmare, at the end of all things, 5 feet nothing standing at the gates of hell; but yet, just a thin skin of aluminum between her and eternal morning sunshine -- she's earned her wings.

I appreciate that the commission released Betty's awe inspiring words.  Her cool thinking truly brings light to what happened on AA11 and the other flights as well.  Her insights into the situation did a great service to those who dedicate their lives to keeping America safe.  I will never forget her.  I thank God that her parents brought her into this world and pray for her siblings.  Betty is in heaven as well as in the hearts of the nation and the world.  And I agree with a previous comment in Betty's honor.  There should be a bronze statue of her in every AA flight terminal.  Or better yet, in every airport.  She must be remembered!

Hearing her voice for the first time, coming from my car radio, I felt as if I was with her and with all the people on AA11... I couldn't breathe... feeling so sad. Maybe she sensed a danger but her voice certainly sounded calm and was in control. My heart and thoughts go to her family and friends and to the people on board of AA11.

Betty Ong died an American hero.  Listening to her last words brings to tears to my eyes, and words simply can't describe how I feel right now after hearing her tape.  I am overwhelmed with the sadness of what happened during those minutes.

Betty Org of American Flight 11 was a wonderful person who showed great emotional and responsible actions during her phone call to operations before her plane crashed into the WTC on 9/11.  A tribute to her is the least I can do to herald her bravery and the people who gave their lives on that flight.  They show us we must be strong in the wake of the terrorist actions against people throughout the world.  Bless them all and through their bravery and sacrifice of their lives let us all resolve to be better and stronger in the present and in the future to make the world a better place.

To the Family of Betty Ong,
I could hardly listen to the tape of your daughter.  My heart goes out to you.  My daughter was in Tower One.  She worked for Cantor Fitzgerald.  I know how you feel.  It has been tough.  Your daughter must have been a remarkable person.  She is a hero to me.  Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

At the sept 11th commission today, they played a recording of Betty Ong, a flight attendant from flight 11.  It was so tragic. she sounded so calm, she was really trying to hold it together.  One of the people on the other end, Lydia Gonzalez, was present at the hearing today. She was very good.  The whole thing was heartbreaking, I will be bawling the rest of my life over the image of a sparkly blue jambox on the witness stand, & this woman's last words coming out of it.
