I am from the UK and visited the memorial museum for the 9/11 victims earlier this year and once more came to realise the loss which was suffered that day. On one wall was the message which you left to your wife while you were on board the plane. I remembered your name and came home and Googled you. Reading the messages you left your loved ones amazed me. You were so brave and loving, and so missed. My thoughts are with your family, who have lost an extremely brave and unique person. My deepest sympathies. Rest in peace.

I did not know Brian D Sweeney, but we share the same name. Its been eight years. I know the pain never goes away. My deepest sympathy for his family. Brian was an AMERICAN HERO. May you find strength and hope thru Jesus Christ.

I knew Brian when I worked for Lockheed Martin as a maintenance contractor with TOPGUN @ NAS Mirimar. I knew Brian professionally and personally. I regret to say that when the TOPGUN school moved to Nevada ... and Brian moved back east ... we lost touch. It wasn't until last night (16 Aug, 2009), when I saw a picture of Brian on my television in a documentary about 9-11, that I even knew that he had been taken away from us. To his wife Julie and his family, I express my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. My heart is aching today in a way I never thought possible. Brian was my friend.... His big heart and equally big smile always made me feel good. I, too, am Irish ... and it was always made a point of calling me a "MICK" every time he saw me. He always had a hug to give ... and something hilarious to say. I will always remember Sunday mornings at a restaurant in Pacific Beach that Brian introduced us to that made the "BEST omelettes." We would all meet there for brunch on Sunday as often as our schedules would allow. I have so often thought about him over the years and wondered if he were doing well. Today I am mourning the loss of my friend.... My undying love to you all, and may God be with you.

It's been a long time since I've been in an Irish Pub; it's just not the same without you. So ... I'll wait until we can do it again together—have a pint ready for me.

I cannot imagine how you still must be feeling. Losing the love of your life must be devastating. Reading your story made me realize how blessed I am. My husband's name is also Brian, and I cannot imagine a day without him, but I know you will be together again one day, and your love story, as mine, will continue.

I just recently watched a show in remembrance of 9-11. I couldn't believe it when I saw Mrs. Sweeney talking about losing her husband Brian, as my husband is also Brian Sweeney. God Bless Their Souls.. We shall never ever forget.

My Deepest Regards,
Alysia Sweeney...Mansfield, Ohio

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
