I remember Jack as a burst of energy when he entered the room. Our thoughts and prayers go out for Janice and family as you continue to heal. Big Sig hugs!

I never knew I had a cousin who was lost in the twin towers attack. My heart and prayers go out to you and all who were lost, great or small. May God bless you.

CAPT Jack Punches, and the Punches Family,

I served with CAPT Punches when he was in OPNAV N3/N5 as the Operations Deputy and working with Jack was a true honor. Everyone loved his sense of humor, kindness and easy going demeanor. People loved working for him not because he demanded so much from them, but because they truly loved the man - he was someone who cared about people and he is surely missed.

Fair winds and following seas Shipmate!

In memory of a great Armed Forces Staff College classmate and friend. Jack had a spontaneous sense of humor and was a great professional as he regaled our class with many tales to include when he was a Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD)squadron commander. 6 years later when I arrived at the Pentagon in the late 90s, I would see Jack many days on his daily run from the Pentagon Athletic Club and more often than not we would exchange a high five in greeting as we passed. Jack and his family continue to be in my prayers.

Jack and Janice,
The 10th Anniversary of 9/11 is rapidly approaching to remember the people who died on this day, I am riding a bicycle 530 miles with wounded veterans in the 9/11 American Challenge, from NY to Shanksville to Washington D.C.
I will be riding with a heavy heart for you Jack Punches you are the inspiration for me doing this bicycle ride. He was a friend and mentor of mine.

God be with you, Jack. You will never be forgotten and will always be admired. You always were and still are my hero. Uncle Jack, we love ya and miss you more with each passing day.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jack's family. I have often thought about him and the others who worked in the Navy's Command Center. In '96-'98, I was a Coast Guard O-5 liaison officer working in N51 a short distance from Jack's office in N31. If I recall correctly, Jack was RADM John Parker's deputy. Jack always had a kind word for me and I could tell by his demeanor and character that he was a good man. I thought highly of him. I learned after the attack that his family had lived in the same development as my family in Clifton.

Rest in peace, Buddy. Love and miss you so. Melissa sends her love to you in heaven. Thank you for being such an awesome guy. Take care of Gram and Gramp Punches. Love ya and miss ya. Continue to watch over your wife and kids.

As I watched all the terror on TV I was so sad for all the families losing a loved one in this tragedy. Then I got a phone call. We were also one of the families.
Jack, God be with you. Rest in Peace.

Jack, you were a terrific instructor and officer. Your competitiveness and leadership were admired by many of us who were trained by you. May you continue to lead the way - in spirit....Larry (VP-5)

Jack and I played basketball together in Sicily (for VP-16) and our team won the base championship in 1979. Jack was a great team mate and competitor.  He set a great example for me and many other junior officers as we started our Navy careers. I still think of Jack everytime I pick up a basketball. Rest in peace.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
