My husband is also fireman and has been in the job for 45 years in Melbourne, Australia. A friend of mine visited a fire station in New York a year after 9/11 and was given a T-shirt in memory of Cpt Billy Burke which she brought home to my husband. He now wears this T-shirt with pride.

God rest you Billy you are in my thoughts and prayers. My thoughts at this time are with your family who along with yourself were so kind to me when I visited with Project children in 2001.

I was shocked when I learned my friend and neighbor (Liz Burke Berry) had lost her brother in the tragedy of that day. I watched as her children ( friends of my children) dealt with the loss of their beloved uncle. I was dealing with loss in my own life back then so did not reach out to her family as I would have liked. Visiting this site today is one small step in making up for that... God Bless You Billy.

I never knew Billy, but know his brother very well. I have heard many great stories about him and would liked to have met him someday. It is a great tragedy that people like him are taken from this world. His brothers loss is the closest connection I have to the 9/11 attacks and I am thinking about him today. God Bless Billy.

I never knew Billy, but I know his brother well and have heard a lot of great stories about him. I would have liked to have met him someday. It is a great tragedy that good people like him are taken from this world. His brother's loss is the closest connection I have to the 9/11 attacks and am thinking about him today.  God Bless Billy.

All of the rescue personnel on that day were heroes. I am honored to have the same last name as this great human being.

I am a Texas fireman and was able to attend the service of Billy Burke or Silly Uncle Billy. It is my loss for not having known a man like Billy. His family can be very proud of the fireman and person Billy was. God Bless and rest easy, my brother.

Billy Burke was a very good friend of mine. He was an amazing and beautiful man. I remember him in my prayers frequently. I have written poems about him. I saved all of the funny cards he ever sent me. I carry him with me always. Billy's birthday is coming up soon. Happy Birthday Billy. Every one misses you.
With love,
Nicole

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
