On September 11, 2002 my company had a 9/11 rememberence day. Each employee was given a card with the name, date of birth and town of a person who died in the 9/11. My card was in memory of Carlos Alberto Montoya Age 36 home town Bellmont, Mass. Carlos was a passenger on American Flight 11. I have had this card posted on my cube wall for 10 years. These cards were given to us randomly the amazing thing is Carlos and I were both 36 in 2001. Each year on my birthday July 21st I say a Happy Birthday to myself and to Carlos!. I will always remember

On May 18, 2011, I visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. I was very moved by the experience. At the end of the tour was a small gift shop. On the counter of the gift shop was a display of beautiful blue velvet bags each one containing a bracelet with the name of one of the vistims of the 9/11 tragedy. The name on my bracelet is Carlos Alberto Montoya, and he was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11 on that tragic day. I have worn my bracelet since that day and have not taken it off. I hope to continue to wear it for many years to come in remembrance of Mr. Montoya and the other victims of terrorism that died that day. They will never be gorgotten.

Betito,

I'm looking at your pictures, and I remembered all the beautiful moments we spent together. You were amazing. The last day that I saw you was your wedding day. It was beautiful. I miss you so much. But you are always in my heart.

Beto - Always thinking of you this time of year and that will never change. Thanks for everything we shared together and everything you showed us.

Beto,
Think of you often, particularly each September. You were a joy to work with and an incredible person. My thoughts are with Stacy and your family today. You are never forgotten.

Carlos Montoya on his wedding day, with his father
Carlos Montoya on his wedding day, with his father

[Ed. - Betin, so many things come into my head. I cried for hours the day that you left for the United States. I couldn't talk to you for 2 years because I couldn't stop crying. You supported and accompanied me to live one on the best experiences that I have had in my life (to jump with a parachute). Although you were a long way away, know that we always considered ourselves to be with you. These are some of the little things that made you a great brother. Today, more than ever, I am sure that, along with dad, you always look after us. I love you a lot.]

For those who knew Carlos, we know that he is better known as "Beto", short for Alberto. You were my first love, my first a lot of things, and so you had never been far from my mind, I had always wished you the best even now. So many good memories come to mind when I think of you. I first met you 23 years ago, but your beautiful green eyes, great smile, awesome personality, and wonderful accent are as vivid as if it were just yesterday. And for me it was just 2 weeks ago that I was informed that you are one of the many lost to us. I still wish you all the best, Beto, but more so now your family. Este mundo no es como antes. [Ed. - This world isn't like (it was) before.]

I will I always miss you cuz we all are a family...

I did not personally know Carlos, but I count him as a member of my extended family through the family of my uncle's wife. I know some of the story of his personal struggles and triumphs in life and wish I knew more.  I will not include details of what I know at this point since I would, no doubt, manage to say something inaccurate due to my only partial knowledge. Suffice it to say that Carlos and his family endured much prior to the 9/11 attacks. Carlos and his family were just beginning a new life in the States and were filled with all the hope and promise of a future that would leave heartache and sorrow behind them. The terrorist attacks cruelly tore those dreams assunder, but I fervently hope that his loved ones can hold true in their hearts the dreams they all had for a better tomorrow.

To his wife and loved ones, please know that you are never alone, know that Carlos will always be loved even by those who only know the story of your lives without having had the honor of knowing him or you personally. I hold you in my thoughts and prayers and fervently wish only the best for your future. Never forget Carlos' sacrifice, but do not dwell on his tragic loss, for he would not have wanted that.

I hope in time you can share his story with all who ask, so that they too may begin to understand what was lost that terrible day. It is the personal stories that keep the memory alive and draw us together as one.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
