Dear Charlie,

I did not know you, but someone in my family knew your family very well. Every year I dedicate this day to the memory of you and your family, you, your wife Leslie Whittington, your daughters Zoe and Dana.

I happened upon the Maryland 9/11 Memorial website today and noticed that the three- and eight-year-old children were this man's daughters. Your family has not been forgotten, even by strangers after almost ten long years. May you rest in eternal peace, and I mourn the short lives of the children.

I remember when you took us trick-or-treating as a mad scientist.

I am an Irish mother and grandmother, and I am trying to leave a little message of support and love to all of you who died on 9-11. May God bless you and keep you.

I ran into Charles' parents this weekend after many, many years of separation. I had no idea that Charles had died on 9/11. Charlie and I went to Junior High School in 1970 together in Denver. He was the first Charles I ever met who liked to be called Chas. Chas was a nickname that fit his personality ... so much more like his wonderful sense of humor, and his iridescent head of red hair! How do we connect these memories of our simple suburban American lives to cataclysmic world events? Now, when I think of 9/11, in addition to all the sadness, I'll also always remember Chas' smile and laughter and the great joy we shared of being young teenage boys.

I am sorry. My heart goes out to you, your two daughters and your wife. I will never forget. I feel immense unfairness when I think about you guys. You left us too early. I am sorry.

Rest in peace / Reposez en paix / Vila I frid.

I happened upon this memorial, and I would like for the survivors of this family to know that their loved ones are still mourned and never forgotten. God bless them and you as well. You are in everyone's prayers.

God bless you. I cannot imagine the horror you suffered trying to protect your precious children.  I think of you often and pray for you now. Hold your children in heaven close and know you are in a better place.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner. The revenue goes back to maintaining this site.
