Chris, as I last saw her which was 1996 was in Wpg. She took me out for a drive with another nurse to an Antique shop. I was almost due for another baby and knowing I would be in good hands, I accepted her invitation for an hour drive. She was caring and warm hearted person, you are dearly missed!

Whenever I walk through Queens Gardens in Hull, I always visit the two memorials to Michael and Christine Egan, brother and sister who died in such a tragic way on September 11th 2001. I pay my respects. I did not know them personally, but we all must remember the victims, friends and families, and try to make sure this never happens again.

Christine was a wonderful friend, and an inspiring and dynamic nurse. She absolutely made a difference in the lives of so many people in the North, and also for us who knew her in our more southerly milieu. Although she lived in Ontario, Manitoba and Pond Inlet while I lived in Vancouver, she visited us regularly. The conversations were always so stimulating and filled with laughter. I miss her, and remember her strength and courage as well as her sense of fun.

I had the privilege of working as a fellow instructor with Chris in the early 1990's in the University of Manitoba's Northern Bachelor of Nursing program in The Pas, Manitoba. Chris was a great friend to others and shared her enthusiasm for life with her students and staff. We kept in touch periodically after we both moved to new opportunities in southern Manitoba. Her home was alway open to friends and acquaintances whenever they were in the area. Chris always clearly loved the arctic people and communities of the north, and she enjoyed her time working in that area of Canada as a nurse.
I was stunned to learn that she was lost in the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center. To this day I can still hear her laughter, and she is always top of mind when September 11th comes around. I pray that she is laughing in heaven with her friends and family and will greet all of us when we move to the next stage after this earth.

I met Chris in Frobisher Bay, and we remained friends for over 30 years. She lived such a full life. Before she began her serious academic studies, she traveled to China, taking them used cardiac catheters she saved for their medical needs. She sent clothing regularly to her needy friends in the arctic. She made avocado from scratch. She made beautiful dolls. She dabbled in photography, developing her own film. She was a translator for Eskimos who came south for treatment. She always took time to visit her parents in England, but, most of all, she nurtured innumerable friendships, treating everyone as if they were the most important person at the time. What a terrible loss for all of this! The only thing I am glad about is that her mother had died one year before on September 10th, so she was spared the grief of losing two of her children. We all miss you, Christine!

I remember Chris Egan from Frobisher Bay, 1970, and the settlements she blessed with her friendship, always with a smile and ready to help anyone who needed help, native or non-native. She was always excited to see the plane arrive in Cape Dorcet. She only mailed one post card, and I never heard from her again until that fateful morning of 2001. Who could forget her name. What a life well-lived!
Always remembered,
Ron Kinch (Victoria, BC)

Christine was an amazing mentor. I was blessed to have worked with her in the Arctic and she changed my life. Because of her I chose to return to school. All day today, in and out of class I thought of her. She taught me that you are never too old to return to school, and that following your dreams is important. Life is too short. I regret that I never got to tell her what an impact she made on my life. I know she would have been proud of me. Today is your day.

I just happened to see a memorial to Christine today (2.4.2008) in Queen's Gardens, Hull. It was quite poignant to see it on a lovely, sunny lunchtime stroll. The injustice of such acts of wholesale terrorism will stand to the eternal shame of the perpetrators.

Christine:
I, like you, am a Winnipegger and a nurse! I also had occassion to visit the World Trade Center in 1998 and I can't imagine what it must have been like after those planes hit! This tragedy truly affected the entire world and impacted lives around the world.
You lived an admirable life and are an inspiration to others.

My cousin Christine had a lovely, bubbly personality. Always smiling and laughing, she was very loving and giving, spending her life caring for others as a dedicated nurse. She loved life, adored her family and friends, and was much loved in return by all who were privileged to know her. Always the life and soul of any party, she had a vast circle of friends throughout the world. She touched so many people's lives. However, she never forgot her roots, and she was basically a 'Yorkshire Lass,' having been born in Hull, England.
I think of Chris every day and miss her so much, both her regular visits and our chats on the phone. As the second anniversary of 11th September approaches, my thoughts are of Chris and with all those who also lost loved ones.
