I was a DoD civilian employed in the building for 9.5yrs. I was in the center courtyard at time of impact. My friend and I visited the memorial yesterday 9-9-12 for the 1st time. I took 3 random photos of from the the birth year 1962. One military/one civilian and 1 passenger. This gentlemen happened to be the one I chose. I will e-mail anyone who wishes to see it. Please put Pent Passenger in the subject line. Very Respectfully, Miss Napolitano, Alexandria, Virginia.

I think of Chris Newton and the family he left behind often. I only had the pleasure of directly reporting to Chris for a short time due to some unfortunate circumstances at the company I was working at, but how fortunate for me! He was all the things people above have commented and on and more. I think he is so well remembered and so sadly missed because you only come across this unique caliber of human-being so few times in your life -- an incredibly upstanding guy, with the highest moral character, intelligence, wit and charm! What an unbelievable combination -- what a guy -- what a profound loss for all that we lucky to know him. He came into our lives for a reason and I only hope in some small way he has impacted all of us to be better people! God Bless you and your family, Chris!

I only met you a couple of times because of my friendship with Amy. Was so sad to hear of your passing and did not even know for some time. Still trying to find Amy to tell her how sorry I was to hear. You two were so good together.

My Fellow Lancer (Lakewood Senior High School, Lakewood CA Class of '80), I had the luck of being a classmate of yours. I had the fortune of being in drama classes and school drama and musical productions with you. You taught me so much, especially how to have fun. I had the blessing of being able to call you, my friend. I think of you often.  God Bless you my dear friend, I know I speak for many when I say, we love you. Jenny Wheeler-Reed

Even though I didn't know Chris that well, I still think about him all the time. I'm a former Work/Life Benefits employee, and I heard the news of his passing on the day that it happened.

Christopher Newton

Chris was our CEO at Work|Life Benefits/Americare. He was kind and funny, and what a handsome man! We were an office of mostly women at the Americare office and he turned us all giddy when he came in for visits. He was a regular guy, and charismatic - someone you wanted to be around, someone you wanted as your friend. Many of our WLB/Americare colleagues were traveling on 9/11/2001. I was in a meeting in the conference room at the time the first plane hit the WTC. Someone burst into our meeting and told us a plane had hit a building in NYC. We all thought it was an unnecessary disruption and went back to our meeting until someone else came in and said "Hey, we have the TV on, you all need to get out here." We all walked towards the TV and just then saw the second plane hit the towers. We all gasped, some screamed, we all looked at each other and cried! Then the frantic search for information on our traveling colleagues began. One by one they were accounted for, except for Chris. But you know how it is? "Nah, he can't be on one of those planes, he'll show up." We were all heartbroken when we heard the news. Each of us made a square for a quilt that was sewn together by volunteers and given to his family. A tree was planted and a plaque was laid at the Auburn Hills, Michigan Community Center grounds. The company also bought a brick, with Chris' name and dates of his existence which was placed at the gazebo at the Lutheran Church behind our office. I did not, will not, ever get over this. Is it because I knew two people who died on 9/11/2001? Maybe. Every 9/11 anniversary, my previous coworkers start sending out emails the night/days before and we all remember, we all hold each other close even though many of us are miles away. Chris' death changed the path of our company -- it no longer exists, it was swallowed up by a bigger company, the office shut down, and many people lost their jobs.

His life affected so many people and so did his death.

Always remember.

Cynthia W.

You went to my church at the time, along with your family. You had a wife and 2 beautiful kids that were far too young to lose you. A memorial plaque was paced at my high school in your memory because you were a Lakewood high school graduate. I will never forget being an altar-girl at your memorial service and the sermon that was given that night. http://www.sermonmall.com/WTC/wtc31.html You will never be forgotten. R.I.P.

I didn't know you, but while looking over the victims' names, yours caught my eye. I am also from Anaheim, and I was 38 in 2001. My heart aches for you and all the other victims. We plan on attending a memorial service today, and I will carry my candle in your name with honor. God bless America.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
