Claribel was a sweet and loving person.  Both her sister and her always made us welcomed when we would visit them in Queens.  The were like two peas in a pod, just as Twins should be.  Claribel was a great daughter, wife and mother. Exceptional in every way. She will always be remembered.  The sad part about her passing was that a month before going to the WTC we conversed about how scary those towers were because they are so high in the air. I will never forget that conversation, I can still hear her voice and cry when I think what must have gone through her mind when the incidents occurred on that dreadful day.  We love you Claribel, and you will be in our hearts forever. Your cousins, Rosie and Louie Sanchez

I remember Claribel and Maribel playing with me, my sister Carol, and my brother Mike in front of our apartment building when we were kids. We all grew up in Woodside along with other friends like Monica, Suzy, Audrey, and Bernard. You are in my thoughts and prayers, Claribel. God bless you always.

I did not know Claribel Hernandez, but I wanted to share this picture from the 9-11 memorial in Tempe, Arizona. A flag is erected in memory of each victim of the attack and, by chance, I photographed hers. God bless. I hope the URL works:

Claribel was the sweetest person I knew who would do anything for people she cared about. I was in no way shape or form related to her, but every time I walked into the apartment, greeted with her hug and smile, I felt like family. God bless your soul Claribel; and keep watching over Joe Steph and Eslyn. Rest Easy.

You would've been 40 today, little sister. Oh, how I wish I could tease you the way you would've teased me for turning 40 before you. :D Everyone remembers and loves you as if you were still among us. Your kids are wonderful young people who will carry on your sweetness and your smart-ass sense of humor. Mom and dad are a little older, but that's something that's true for all of us. We miss you so much. We love you so much. It's still hard to accept that I'll never see you again.

I miss you Claribel, and I think of you all the time: Hanging out at north side park. You and Marabell alway looking out for me and Maria. I will never stop calling Marabell. One day she will call me back.

I love you always,

Dear Claribel,

I never knew you, and you never knew me. I remember you all too well back at JHS 125. You were so pretty and free spirited. I remember seeing you and your twin sister, Maribel, always together. These messages about you are so beautiful. Thank you for making a difference in many hearts. We need more people like you, you know? I'm sorry we never connected, but I still thank you for the difference you made with so many. My heart goes out to you, my dear, to your family, and to your friends. Hugs to you, shining angel.

My memories of my mom are wonderful yet hard to remember. They are very vague and unclear, but I still somehow get the idea. I remember one night when I had asked my dad, "Where's mommy?" and he had responded, "She's still at work. She comes home late and leaves very early." Then he said that she called to say that she loved me and my brother. That's what I remember the most clearly. Somehow I think he said that to cover up the fact she was gone.... I will always miss you, and I think of you very often ... maybe a little too much.... I hope to see you again.  <3  I love you.

Claribel,

I met your daughter and saw how big your son has grown. When I went to New York last year, she looked as beautiful as you. I took a photo of them to keep next to my heart. I remember when your mother took care of Maria and me and when your father took us to play land. Or when we were waiting on Eslen, and your hair was on fire. I pulled your face to my chest and put out the fire, & all you could say was, "Eslen was going to smell the smoke." You showed me a lot. I will never forget you or Maribel. I still call Maribel, even when I know she knows I am calling and does not call me back. Some day I will see her again. You are a beautiful angel, and that you are looking over them. I will never, ever forget you. You will forever be in my heart.

Claribel,

To her: You're still in my heart. I will always love and miss you. To the family: I love you, too. I would love to hear from you. I was one of the other twins Claribel and Maribel used to always hang out with when we are kids in Woodside. Carmen was like our second mom. She took care of me. I miss you all. Much love. I was honored to be the kindergarten teacher of Claribel's daughter, Stephanie, at the time of the September 11th tragedy. What a special young lady Stephanie was! I am sure Stephanie is continuing to mature and grow up to be more and more special each year under the guidance of her father, Eslyn. Although I have retired from teaching at P.S. 12, I would love to be in touch today. I can be found in the telephone book.

Dear Claribel and her loved ones,

I think of you so often. Even though we weren't in touch, yet you've left a mark in my life. We went to PS 12, and JHS 125. I have never forgotten you. May your spirit rest in peace.

Love,
Zahra Karim (maiden name Lila)

Hey, Claribel,

There isn't a day that passes that I don't think of you. I hope you are in a good place. Madrina misses you so much that she always calls me telling me she had a dream about you. I always remember the things you told me when I was a little girl and the advice you told me to follow. I can barely go through the Macy's in Queens without tearing up. Remembering those days when I was 13-14 hanging out with my friends, and you would stop me, asking me if my mom knew I was out and to make sure I stopped by before I left. I wish you where here to meet the person I always told you I was going to marry. You were the only person who didn't judge me because of what I told you. You, on the other hand, just gave me a hug and said, "Don't tell your mother. She'll kill you." =) And you told me that one day I would be happy with someone--and I am soo happy. Miss you, tia....

Love you always,
Jackie

I met Claribel when we worked together at Macy's in Queens Center. When I transferred to Fine Jewelry, she was one of the first people to welcome and train me. She was always kind to me. She spoke about her children and family constantly and loves you all very much. Claribel, you will be missed. I never forget you or this sad day. God Bless You! I know you are looking down on and protecting those you love.

Anyone who knows claribel, they would tell you how much life she brought to anyone she met. I known her since we were kids and from the old neighborhood and she has always been a wonderful person to meet. She loved life, she loved to live life. I hurts so much to know that her life is now a beautiful memory of how much we all cared. We miss you so much Claribel. I'm sure you are looking down at us with that wonderful smile you always gave.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
