dear Dana, not a day has gone by since that terrible September morning that I have not thought about you.
Sometimes I wonder if you look down from heaven and send a ray of sunshine on everybody and smile. You will be missed, but everytime we see your bright smiling face on a picture I cant help to shed a teer and smile knowing you are in a better place that is void of horror and sadness and instead, filled with joy, happiness and love. Thank you for touching my life even though it was only for a brief moment.

Dear Dana,

I did not know you, but someone in my family knew your family very well. Every year I dedicate this day to the memory of you and your family.

To the family of dear Dana and her sister Zoe,
May God be with you all. I have a little four-year old girl and it is only now that I can attempt to empathize with those who lose innocent children before their time. May you all be blessed, and may your lives be peaceful knowing that these little angels and their parents are in a better place with our dear Lord.

From the youngest hero to the oldest, just know that there are grandparents, parents, siblings, and friends on the west coast of this country that will never forget you and tell your story every chance we get to the next generation so the loss of you will be embedded in the future of our country today and always.

Dear Dana,

As we approach the 10 year anniversary of you leaving this world, please know as you you will NEVER be forgotten. I wish this had not happened and I wish we could have stopped it. I wish you could be hanging out with your friends and texting each other about boys and clothes and school, but we cannot turn back back time, and we did not stop the events that snatched you away from the life you should have had. I am so sorry Dana, I hope we all get to meet you in heaven one day.

My name is Justin and I am in the United States navy stationed overseas. Today we did a 5k pride run in remembrance of everyone that was lost during 911. Everyone wore a name on their chest for someone that was lost. The name on my chest was Dana Falkenberg. Just know that even though time has pass you will never be forgotten.

Dana was only in my class for 3 days when she and her family left to go to Australia. She was coming back to our class in 6 Months. We were going to e mail for the next 6 months. On the last day we had the children outside to play on our return to our class. My co teacher pointed to Dana and there she was sitting on the ground in the fiele with her dress around her, her hands in her lap looking at the school with a look on her face  I have finally arrived at school. I have often wondered what she would have become. I still miss her today. Peace be with you, Dana love Miss Barbara

Oddly enough, for me, the thought of 9/11 is synonymous with a thought of you and of a friend of my family. I find it odd that I'm 13, as you would have been. I was allowed to live, and you weren't.... It's weird. This letter to you is from the same person who left you a letter on September 11, 2010. It is quite odd because I feel as though I know you. Seeing your bench at the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial last year has changed the way I think about 9/11.... It has changed me forever. I hope that you see this from your bench in heaven.

Hey there, Dana,

I remember the first day I met you: Mama Leslie told Zoe and me that we could hold you, under the stipulation that if you pooped while we were holding you, we had to change your diaper. It's a good thing that you didn't, or else we might not have loved you as much :p. Just kidding! You know, every time I see lambs (or lamb toys), I think of your special stuffed animal that you love so much. I still sleep with Cuddly Baby, in case you were wondering. No shame. Its crazy to think of how old you would be now, a teenager experiencing all the wonders of adolescence. I think that is the saddest thing. I visited your grandparents this summer in Denver with Zoe C. You look so much like them. I think I will be making a trip to Georgia this summer to see the other side of your family. I miss you and love you, and you know you were not just your Zoe's, but Zoe C's and my little sister, too.

I went to kindergarten with her at our local YMCA when she and I were only three years old.

Rest in peace, Dana. My friends and I miss you and your family. May god be with you.

Rest in peace, sweet angel.

Rest in peace. May your sweet little heart be blessed for the rest of your life. I saw your bench at the memorial and cried and cried some more, but I know you are in a better place. I just wish someone could have done something to stop them. You will always be a part of my heart and in your family's too. R.I.P <3

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
