Dear Pezzulo,

You were a brave firefighter who survived till the end. You risked your life to save your fellow firefighters and died trying. You are truly my hero and never be forgotten

Yesterday I visited for the first time the WTC memorial. There I met a young police woman and I asked where I could find the name of Dominick Pezzulo. I was interested because he was born in my town in Italy, Giano Vetusto, where there is a plaque on the door of the house. I knew his mother who later came to US and I became priest and later came to US. We lost contact. But I was told that Dominick was the victim of the attack by my family in Italy.
The young police woman personally took me to see the name inscribed on the wall. I said a prayer, took a picture and placed him in the hands of God. My condolonces to the family. You are in my prayer. I would appreciate to know if you received this message. Thank you. Rev. Paul Iovino

He was a police officer who tried to help John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno escape from the rubble. He was killed in the collapse of the North Tower, and fired his gun to help his colleagues until he died. He is someone America should follow, and Americans should learn that God would be honored if you risked your own life to save those of others.

What a tragedy for our world to have lost a beautiful soul! Your courage is inspiring and should be commended by all. If only this world had more men like you ... I can't even imagine how wonderful it would be. And yet I'm sure that, at the time, your courage and kind spirit just acted naturally to you, and you just did what you had to do.

To the parents, you must be amazing people to have raised such an honorable man.

We started the same day at TWA as aircraft mechanics. I worked with you for ten years, then we both went to different careers. You made me laugh many times in those ten years. May your soul shine bright in heaven. God bless you. You are truly missed.

You're a brave guy, Dominick, trying to get Will and John out of the rubble. But I'm proud for what you tried to do for the officers. God bless you, Dominick.

Mr. Pezzulo,

In class we were asked to choose a 9/11 hero to write about. After learning about you, I must say I am proud of the fact that people like you do the things you do for our country.

I am at a complete loss for words. He was one of MY FAVORITE teachers at Lehman. Mr. P, you are a hero. And you were the BEST teacher at Lehman!

I didn't know you. But your actions speak of great courage, the kind that great people have. God bless you and your family. I know you're watching over them from heaven.

Only the good die young, I heard once. And you were the best.

Mimmo, I will NEVER FORGET. God bless.

I lived across the street from Mimmo. (We lived on the corner of Maclay Ave. and Seddon St.) Mimmo was a really good friend and had a wicked sense of humor. We grew up together until I moved ... occasionally crossing paths after that.

I think about you all of the time. I am a better person for having known you. Although I can't imagine the pain that your family still goes through, I only hope that by seeing that you are a hero in so many people's eyes — especially mine — it can provide some solace.

Rest in peace, my friend.

Ciao Mimmo,

- Hello Mimmo, I will always remember one summer of my life when a little boy came to Italy from the U.S. He fascinated me with a smile and a baseball mitt. Having been your friend, even for a short time, makes me proud. Every time I travel on the road to Giano Vetusto that was dedicated to you, every time I see the plaque that commemorates you, I think back to that summer, the lightheartedness that we felt then, and it is sad to know that you're not there anymore. From that bloody September 11, the memory lingers of man's folly, redeemed by so many heroes like you. Bye, my friend. Don't forget.]

  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
