I had never heard of Mr. Miller until September 11th, 2011. On that day I went to a san fransisco Giants baseball game in san fransisco. While walking into the park I was handed a small cardboard sign with his name on it in rememberance of him. I finally decided to look this man up and I am truley grateful for the sacrifice this man made on that horrible day. God bless you Douglas Miller.

My family and I went to NYC on the weekend of 9-11-11; it was a very powerful and moving experience for my small town Maine family.
Doug and his family was in my thoughts as we walked around this amazing city.
Thank you so much for your sacrifice in saving others!

Laurie---you and your family were in our thoughts on Sun. as we observed the tenth anniversary of 9/11. I will never forget the stories you shared at the P. Buckley Moss Society Chapter Training in 2004. We will have to get in touch again---I pray things are going well for you and your girls.

I was best friends with Rachel at the time. We were five. I used to go over the house all the time. I remember when my dad told me what happened. I think about Mr. Miller and the Miller family all the time. Rest in peace.

I am a member of Denton Fire/Rescue in Denton, TX. September 11, 2011 I was 1 of 343 area firefighters who climbed in honor of those brothers who perished.
I was honored to be able to climb my 110 stories in honor of Douglas C. Miller. It is my hope that I will be able to honor his memory each year for many years to come...

I attended the same high school as Doug in 1982. We were in different grades, different classes and rode on the same bus and saw each other on practice fields after school so we were only acquaintances, yet still I remember him after all these years because of a single act of kindness in high school.
I remember being caught in an unbelievable thunder storm one late afternoon while walking to a girl friend’s house in Bethpage, Long Island. At same time, Doug was hurrying for cover in opposite direction on his bicycle and noticed me. After a quick wave as he rode by through the sheets of rain, he suddenly stopped, turned around and offered me a ride on his handle bars to where I was going.
He would not take no for an answer and we wound up riding down Stewart Avenue for 2 miles through a nasty storm until he dropped me off and then peeled off soaking wet, back into the pouring rain to back track where he was originally headed.
For whatever the reason, that single act of kindness from someone I barely knew was something that stuck with me. After 9/11, I learned through Holy Trinity Alumni news that he was among the heros that perished that terrible day.
So now I remember Doug not only as that kid who helped me out one day, but also remember him as the hero he was in making the ultimate sacrifice to help all those in need that terrible day of 9/11.

Doug,
You signed my memory book with the words, "I really enjoyed your class, yes, someday I will make it to West Point. All the best, Doug." The motto of West Point is "duty, honor, country." You have fulfilled that motto so well as so few others have. You made it if anyone has. I tell your story many times, and once a retired Lt. Col. read my story about you, and he remarked to me: "What a man! Someday when my time comes, and I am honored to meet Doug, I will give him a snappy salute." Two weeks later that old vet passed on, and I am sure Doug and he met.

Doug was my neighbor and a second dad to me. When we lost Doug, I was 11. Now I am 19 and getting ready to leave for the navy. And I know Doug is watching over me each and every day. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him. I'll never forget what a man he was to me. He was one of a kind. I love ya, buddy!

Doug was my cousin, and even though we all drifted apart as time went on, I will forever remember you and the visits to your house as a child and also your wedding day! I am proud to call myself your cousin! You are always in my thoughts!

I didn't really know Doug that well, but my grampy has told me quite a bit about him. Today I am doing a school report about 9-11, and the person I'm writing about is Doug. I don't remember him that well, but I know he used to come up to Maine at my grandfather's house. I'm sorry I never met him, and I wish he would still come up to Maine and hunt, but unfortunately he can't. When my teacher put this assignment out, I couldn't think of anyone I would have wanted to write about but Doug. We miss him.

To everybody that was affected by 9-11, me, my grandmother, and my little cousin we send our deep condolences. I could not imagine losing someone in my family in that kind of way. And to Doug Miller, my granny is praying for you with all thoughts.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
