In Danville Illinois we had a memorial ride for the victims of 9/11. We rode over 150 miles through many towns, not real sure on the number of motorcycles, but the number of participants, fire station personnel, and bystanders was overwhelming. I had the honor of wearing B. C. Edward Geraghty, FDNY, Battalion 9 over my heart and was very proud to do so. Money raised on this ride is being used for firemen in the community who have perished for saving the lifes of others. This fund is set up in memory of everyone who lost their life on 9/11. I was so proud to do this. Wishing the family and friends of Edward Geraghty the love and strength that comes from each and everyone on this ride and everyone that showed their support. Gone but never to be forgotten. I am hoping the family sees this and knows this. Love you all and keep you in my prayers. God Bless!

I am running the 9.11K remembrance run in Las Vegas, NV, tomorrow. In honor of the fallen heroes, each of us runners was assigned a name. I am proud to say I will be running in honor of Edward F. Geraghty. Although I did not know Mr. Geraghty, I can tell by the comments that he was a very special man. I pray for his family and wish them the best.

Miss you, Eddie. Wish we had run NYC and Ocean to Sound together, like we had planned. Miss seeing you and your boys getting bagels after a long run. Still wearing the bracelet Conor gave out at the first "6:10 on 9-10". You and everyone else from RVC will be carved in stone and in our memories.

Daughter of Paul Geraghty, Fire Chief, Clinton, MO; and married to grandson of Frank C. Clark, founding member of Rescue 1 NYFD. Proud to share the same name as Edward Geraghty.

Last summer I went to NY for the first time. I remembered a small fire station close to Times Square and took a photo of the memorial close to the main gate.

I was watching those photos tonight, so I Googled for info about that fire station, and I found that Ed Geraghty was the Chief of Fire Engine #54, whose members died in the WTC collapse. Coming to NY made me even more aware of the huge sacrifice that NYFD, NYPD, and Port Authority have paid to help and serve their community.

I would like to express my strong admiration for the firefighters of Fire Engine #54 and the other brave people who lost their lives during 9/11 and, although I am not American, I would like to thank them for their efforts. May you all rest in peace.

You are not forgotten. I was a neighbor of Ed's, he and his family is and always will be in my prayers. A HERO of all HEROES! My love to his family on this day and everyday. GOD BLESS you

I am a volunteer firefighter in Falcon, Colorado. I had the privilege of climbing the QWEST tower as a part of the 5th Annual Denver Firefighter Memorial Stairclimb on 11 SEP 09. It was my honor to carry the picture and memory of BC Geraghty with me as I climbed. Instead of "never forgetting," I choose to "always remember" the heroic efforts of BC Geraghty and the 342 other brave firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice. May their selflessness forever stand as an example to all.

Eddie was a high school classmate. I think of him often and say a small prayer each time. We pray for his family that each day brings with it some measure of comfort and joy as they think of Eddie.

Connor:

I don't know when you started your email. I see the comments above are all from last August. Well, we are in the New Year, and this has just reached me in the heart of the country in Oklahoma. I wish you well with your petition. I am signing it and sending it on to my fellow teachers and Red Cross volunteers.

God bless,
Judy W.

I am so sorry that your family was so decimated by this tragedy. May the roof above never again fall in, and the friends below never fall out.

I've received an email that states it is from this brave man's child, indicating that the date of September 11 be declared "national firefighters' day." If this is accurate, I support it wholeheartedly. Should this be deemed a hoax, I hope that the full and vengeful force of the both law and the moral majority shall fall on the head of the individual who began this email chain.

The email purported to be that of this brave man's son was this:

It's quite amazing that Edward Geraghty's son has reached so many of us. I do hope all firefighters will have a day to be honored and recognized for their bravery.

I am Irish and proud to have the same name as the 9-11 Hero Edward Geraghty. I learned about him when some time ago I came across his tunic on display in Dirty Nellies pub beside Bunratty Castle, County Clare. May God bless him.

A HERO for all of us, for all time. A NATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS' DAY is a long-overdue, wonderful idea, and the least we can do for all firefighters: those who died on 9/11, those who came before, and those who risk their lives each day for all of us. Thank you for your service.

I received an e-mail from his son and stopped by to say how brave he and his son are and thank you both for doing something wonderful for everyone! R.I.P., Edward Geraghty.

I received an e-mail reference the late Chief Geraghty's son Connor trying to get names on a petition to have 11 Sep designated by the President as National Firefighters' Day to honor all fallen firefighters. I admire the son in trying to get this done, but I should pass on that the White House will not accept petitions in the form of e-mails. Signatures with names and addresses must be listed prior to being mailed in ... not on an e.mail. Collecting signatures by e-mail is a waste of time. Sorry, but I thought I should pass this on.

Secondly, and very important, I have made a Patriotic Quilt especially for Connor, the late Chief's son, but I need a mailing address so I can send it to him. All that was listed in the e-mail I received was "Rockville Center, NY," but no street address. It was mentioned that his late father was the chief of Battalion 9--and I've just spent an hour on searching via Google for an address for that firehouse without any success. Could someone please either send me the mailing address for Connor or the mailing address for the 9th Battalion so I can mail him the quilt I've hand-made for him in loving Memory of his father?

Thank you for your help on this.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
