Thinking of you all on this sad anniversary Sept 11 2011.
Its true that the events and those that died will never be forgotten. Ten years on, and this is just a speck in the passage of time.
Not related but we share the same surname.
Paul Whelan, London UK.

Hey Eugene,
Guin heard your name read off during a rollcall of the 9/11 firemen heroes, and we prayed that it wasn't you, but on seeing your picture, there was no doubt.... You really had not changed at all. Although I had not seen you since you were a little guy in New Lebanon, I see from these remembrances that you grew up to be the way I always thought you would, admired and loved by all who knew you. I still have a vivid memory of you running around the yard, poopie diaper hanging low, but you didn't have time to stop ... you were running headlong into the next adventure.
Eugene, we remember you with such fondness and would just like to say how very grateful we are for such a true hero as you. You and your whole family are in our hearts and thoughts forever.
Love to you,
Connie

OK Eugene, I decorated the van! People over here will know your name, that's for sure! LOL! It is plastered all over my van with pictures of you and other heroes and victims of 9/11 along with EACH AND EVERY NAME. I like having people come up to me and shake my hand, thanking me, in your honor, for remembering. I feel like it's "something" I CAN do to keep the memories alive of the almost 3000 souls lost. The girls and I also had t-shirts made up. The ones from your family are quite worn out and ready to be retired!
I am thinking of those who knew you best today and those who miss you most. I pray that they will find peace and forgiveness. I can't imagine how much it hurts for them sometimes. I wonder if you've been able to help them thru somehow... At this point I can only hope that they know they will see you again someday. I will pray for them tonight....Love Tracina

Eug,
I of course can't help but think of you today and of all the fun that I had with you and Rob growing up. You were like an older brother to me, too, and I knew that you always had my back and that I could always count on you. I'll be playing a bit of the Good Ol' Dead for you today and remember fondly (sadly) all of the good times we shared.

Nine years ago today I picked your name from a list of thousands of people who died during the events that occurred on 9/11/01. I picked your name so that I could pray for you and your family. Through this I have talked with your friend Vinny and got to know all kinds of things about you, such as what a fun, caring, gentle, and sweet person you were—and of course about your wonderful party side! I still carry your photo in my wallet every day, and every year on this day, I carry it in my pocket. I, too, am a public servant (EMS), and I know about your sacrifice! Thank you! Thank you for doing your job and saving others! You knew that this was no ordinary call that day and the risks involved in it, but you and all your brothers chose to help others in their greatest time in need! God bless you and your family. I promise never to forget!

Eugene,
I am thinking about you today and remembering your laugh, your smile, your mischievous nature, and the fun times we had at Grandpa Bray's when we were younger. But most of all, I'm thinking about how you are my hero!

Just amazed that another year has gone by.... Dana and I were just talking about you to some family of his. We were laughing about how crazy you were and how you wanted to lay out my brother-in-law for drunk dancing with Tracie! LOL! AHHH, but you kept your cool, whew!
Anyways, just wanted you to know that we are keeping you alive with our memories. I'm sad when I think of your family, but I'm happy to know that you're in the comfort of your Father's home! I hope you feel the love there ... from those who love you here. I guess it wouldn't be heaven if you didn't.
Sending love out to those who love and miss their son, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, partner, and/or HERO, Eugene Whelan.

Hey, brother ...
I can't believe it is eight years tomorrow. My eyes still get flooded at the thought! Life here in Florida is great, as I am sure you know. The kids are getting big and making me proud. Thanks for teaching me about being "in the moment" and saying "I love you" with a hug. The little things seem to hit home the most! I have shared your life with many, as the world needs to strive for the happiness you portrayed. Just got Jets/Dolphs tickets for Monday the 18th of October. I'll be thinking of you in the parking lot while partying and throwing the ball. I loved the times with you, Dad, Chris, Billy and others at the Meadowlands. At least down here it won't be as cold! For now, keep on lighting up the sky and sending that positive energy. I can't say I miss you because you are in my heart daily.... I wish I could get one more FDNY/NYPD hockey game though! Happy eighth in heaven.... Save some room! Peace out!

Uncle Eugene,
I miss you more than I ever thought was possible. I'm sitting here crying, reading what everyone has to say. It makes me miss you more.It still doesn't seem real that you are gone, even though next month it will be 8 years. If I had one wish, I would wish to see you one more time, so you could hold me in your loving arms. I miss coming up and visiting you. You were such a great man. You helped anyone, no matter who it was or what you had to do. No one has the heart that you do. You will always be my one true hero. You died doing what you loved best: Even though you didn't have to, the good man that you are, you went in to work, anyway! I miss you, grandpa, and aunt Denise so much. I never got to meet aunt Denise, but I still miss her so much. I wish I could have met her and let her know that I love her and hope she is alright! I miss sitting next to grandpa and talking about everything and dancing with him, as he taught me step by step! My new boyfriend, Robert, is a big Jets fan. I'm looking forward to watching the games with them. It's nice talking to him about you and grandpa 'cause he understands and relates. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss you all. I know I have my whole life ahead of me—I'm only 17—but when my time comes, I hope to be with you all again! You are extremely missed, and I know you are watching over all of us every single day! I really hope I can be as successful as you are! I will never forget about you! I miss you and love you so much!
Love,
Sara <3

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
