I worked for George Simmons at the Xerox Training Center for several years. He was nicknamed "Papa George" because he cared so much about his instructors and their students and the rest of us who worked with him as well. One time I was so sick, I'd even lost my voice and couldn't come to work. But I could barely call it in, so he came out to my house to make sure I was going to be okay. He and his wife took amazing vacations and they always brought me back a gift. I still have the gold leaf they got me in Hawaii and wear it each September 11th. Rest in peace George and Diane...

I sat with Jeff and Jon Simmons watching the initial attack. We were all working at Zabatt, Inc. Jeff stated that his brother and sister in law were flying out that day. As we sat together with our co-workers and friends that morning we hoped against hope that the Simmons family would not be on one of those flights. They were. All my love to Jeff and Jon and to the children and family of George and Diane.

The years have not diminished memories of George stopping by my cubicle at XICTMD, leaning over the wall, and discussing Monday night's football game, or the weather, or the latest rumor of what was happening at HQ in Stamford, or whatever! That infectious grin — that twinkle in his eye — he was always a welcome interruption. I'll never forget him.

You died with your wife and didn't get to say 'goodbye' to your family. I will remember all of you in my prayers

Another anniversary of this tragic event and loss of great people is upon us. George (and Diane) are deeply missed, but the positive memories remain in my heart! I will NEVER forget....

Miss you "Papa George,"

George (& Diane),

Remembering you on this 7th anniversary and the positive impact you made to our society and lives! I find myself using the lessons you taught in both work and family and will always remember our "Papa George"

Miss you deeply,

George was one of my Managers while I was working for Xerox as a Consultant in the XBS group. I will never forget the many words of wisdom given to me by George and his positive attitude in all situations! Many of us at the Training Center called him "Papa George" as he often provided us feedback for growth and was always there for us.

I had the pleasure of socializing outside of work with George and his wife Diane on a few occasions. I learned of their outstanding value system and love for each other!

I miss you both and will always remember the positive impact you made in my life...

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner. We are maintaining this site with our own money and time. We try to keep the advertisements to a minimum and we try to make them as unobtrusive as possible. The revenue goes back to maintaining this site.
