I never knew Elizabeth and had no connections to her until after 9-11. I became pregnant with my daughter in February of 2006 and was several months pregnant when I watched the movie, "Flight 93." I was very moved by the movie and was touched by the way Elizabeth reacted in the situation. As I was watching the movie, I was able to feel my daughter kick for the very first time. I already had a name picked out for her (Aubreigh Allyson), and at the end of the movie I was reading the credits, and the only name I remember seeing was HONOR ... and in that instant I knew that was the name God wanted me to name my daughter. Although I never met her, I still remember to this day that she is who my precious daughter is named after. So in some small way I feel that Honor Elizabeth lives on in my daughter Honor Grace.

Hello, Elizabeth,

This is Kristen Doherty. I come from the Library of Congress / US Copyright Office. I still remember our conversation about mailing in an item to be copyrighted, and I gave you the address to send the item. I miss hearing your voice over the phone. I even remember seeing you at the Discovery Store in Silver Spring, MD. I used to work at Marriott International, Inc. as a clerk in the HR office there. I always pray for you and your family. I visited the site where the plane went down. I want to say, "Thank you," for saving my life and being a great client. I left you and all the passengers at the temporary site a wooden Franciscan crown rosary that I had blessed by a special saint. Thank you again and God Bless.

Dear Elizabeth,

Another year has gone. Yesterday evening I saw again the video about Flight 93 on German TV and a documentary. I will never forget you and all the other heroes of 9/11. God bless you all.

Every one of those brave people was true American, and I will never for get that day and what I was doing. And every year when that day and time come around, I will thank god for everyone on Flight 93 and their families. May god be with them all, and may they have peace and joy and love with them always. Thank god for people like them; if this country had more like them, we would be great then. We are love--peace and joy. God bless America. I did not know any of them, but they all are my sisters and brothers in my heart and will have a place in my heart as long as I live. Love you all.

I am so sorry for the loss of Liz. My friend Deora, too, was on Flight 93. I am inspired every day by Deora, along with Liz and the others that morning. At the time, I am grateful that Deora was in a place with wonderful angels like Liz that continue to to inspire me every day. I do charity work out here in Deora's memory through music, and I also started the San Diego chapter of the "93 Cents for Flight 93" program at Deora's K-12 school here in S.D.

Tonight for the first time I saw Liz' sister in a commercial promoting the Flight 93 Memorial Project. It moved me to tears of sadness and inspiration to see her promoting the Memorial Project as I am here in San Diego. My heart is with you, and together with the help of others we will make the Memorial a reality, and we will be there when it opens on the 10th Anniversary! : ) Hope to hear from you.

Even though all these years have passed, I cannot get you out of my mind! You were so amazing, intriguing, and full of life. Beth Bucknam, your old boss has passed away at 39. As I was reading her obituary I couldn't help but get emotional over her passing and the fact that she named her son's middle name after your first name, Honor. I know Beth loved you the way we all did. You made it easy! You are the best! EVER!

All My Love,
Lisa (Discovery)

P.S. Hi, Daryl. I see you wrote. It's so hard to forget her. :(

Hey Liz,

I was in Manhattan yesterday and stopped by ground zero to say hello. While at the memorial, I felt a calming chill come over me as I was thinking about you and the good times we had singing karaoke in Hicksville that night and eating Mexican in Huntington. You are an amazing person. If only more of us could be like you, this world would be a much better place. See ya soon, and keep touching the lives of those who love you. You will never be forgotten.

Dear Elizabeth,

It's been nearly a year since I wrote my last thoughts. Now I'm back from Afghanistan for nearly half a year. There had been some days there when I thought, "What am I doing here?" But when I saw your picture and the pictures of the other innocent victims, I got my answer. Elizabeth, I will never forget you! God bless you!

Your story moves me and touches me because you are the kind of person we all want to know. The kind of person we all want to have as a friend. The kind of person every parent would want to have for a child. You were the kind of person that inspires people to be kinder to each other, the kind of person who motivates people, the kind of person that keeps hope alive. Your name is known all over the country, all over the world. It means "Courage," "Hope," "Love," "Dedication," and most of all "Honor." My prayers go out to you and your family. God bless you, Honor Elizabeth Wainio.

Sorry for your loss. The whole incident inspired me to join the military. That was the only way I could think of to honor all the people who innocently lost their lives.

I didn't know her, but just the fact she cared more about her mother's emotions instead of herself during her last moments on earth proves she thought of others first.

PS: Not that it really matters, but please update the flight number to 93 and not 193.

I'm visiting Jensen Beach, FL. Yesterday I was in the park under the inter-coastal bridge enjoying the weather sitting on a bench. My husband was fishing. When I got up to leave, I noticed the "In Memory" plate on the bench in honor of Ms Wainio. I was so moved that I said a prayer, and here I am today looking her up and remembering her today. god bless

I, like a lot of people, have watched the Flight 93 movies, and every time it is Elizabeth who stays in my thoughts for hours and sometimes even days. I am the mother of four daughters, and I cannot even imagine having the conversion with one of them that she had with her step-mother that day. Elizabeth and her family (and all the Flight 93 passengers) are some of the most extraordinary people, and they are all heroes to me. God bless you all.

I heard about your death six years ago, and when I heard about your plane crashing in Shansville, Pennsylvania, I was saddened yet inspired by you and the rest of the passengers on board flight 93, and I knew that on a day America and the world changed, there would be heroes on Flight 93, and you are my hero, Elizabeth. gd bless u and your family.

Lizz,

You are greatly missed. Your amazing energy could always bring a smile to my face. I will always cherish our memories of working with you and Michelle at Baskin Robbins.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site.
