I did not personally know Ira, but I learned of him through the foundation that was created in his memory. My Son will never forget the 2nd annual Disney Summer Program and Ira's legacy will continue to live through the lives he touched even after 9.11.

On that fateful day in 2001, I was in the office working with a relative of Ira's when the news broke about the WTC. Over the course of the next few weeks, I stayed in touch with the relative, praying for Ira and his family. Upon learning of his death, I decided to remember 9/11 on a personal level by choosing to specifically remember one person from the WTC and another from the Pentagon. I think of Ira and his family often. I pray for and think good thoughts for them. I hope his family has found peace and comfort in the midst of their great loss. I will never forget.

I became paddleball friends with Ira about 5 years prior to his untimely death. Ira was a kind and caring gentleman, both on and off the paddleball courts at Baldwin Harbor Park on Long Island. He was always fair and honest and was always positive, and it was a pleasure playing with him and chatting with him between games. He loved paddleball, and he was an excellent player. He enjoyed the sport as much as anything he did. I remember being his last paddleball partner that Labor Day Weekend just prior to that sad and horrible day 9/11/2001. I do remember saying to Ira, "Ira, have a good day, and I will see you next weekend." That next weekend I was told by my paddleball friends that were closer to him that Ira was still missing, and we all gathered around in a circle and prayed that he would be found alive, perhaps in a local hospital in Manhattan. Unfortunately, he was never found, and weeks later with deep sorrow and regret we attended his funeral. Ira my friend, rest in peace. You were one of the good guys. You will always be remembered.
Your paddleball friend,
Lenny

My mom worked with Ira and although I never had the opportunity to know him, I always heard wonderful things. I just thought this one fact about him should always be remembered; Ira sat facing the Statue of Liberty. He cut a piece of the cubicle out so that he had a perfect eye leveled view of the Statue of Liberty. Every morning, he would eat his breakfast and stare at it. I thought that was a nice story. It made me wish I had the opportunity to have met him.

I just want to let Ira's family know his friends still think of both him and his family daily. I really enjoyed Ira's positively uplifting spirit.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
