My son is a volunteer firefighter and on Sept 11, 2011, they climbed 104 stories to honor and remember the fallen heroes of that horrible day. He got the name of James C Riches. Tho we will never know each other, I want you to know that we will never forget the sacrifice he made. Godspeed James.

Christ United Methodist Church in College Station, TX wanted to help honor the 9/11 heros by giving attendees the name of one of the heros. James C. Riches is my hero and I will keep him and his family in my prayers. God bless you and your family.

On the 10th Anniversary of September 11th, I participated in a Memorial March in Portland, ME and we were each given a name of one of the fallen firefighters, or policemen. I was given James Riches, Firefighter, of Engine 4, FDNY, it was a privileged to carry his name during the March.
I know I have never forgotten the sacrifices so many men and women made that day and the loss of lives which has been felt by so many.
James and his family will now be in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Eileen Bartlett

God bless the Irish in America.
From an ex short-time fire-fighter.
Respect to a brother Irish, your soul and ancestors souls are as one in the air here.
To the Dad. Jim.
Try and give your head as much rest and peace as you can.
Leave aside all the politics and so called rights and clear wrongs. The people who did this to innocents are beneath contempt. Pitiful excuses for men.
Jim, do not let them consume what is left of you and your family.
I never met you or your son, nor heard of you before tonight, seeing you on the news.
It is clear to me on site that you are obviously a great Dad and Your boy Jimmy a great boy.
Remember the strength in being Irish. No one can take away pride that lives for ever.
If you are ever in Ireland and want a fish for an hour or so and have a wee bit of chat about nothing.

I have kept Jimmy and his family in my thoughts and prayers since 9/11. Through the grace of God I came to know them from a worker at Ground Zero, a neighbor in NJ and then a friend of their family, Mary Sue. I was honored and privileged to present Engine 4 and the Riches family with a photo of the "firetruck angel". Jimmy and Rita placed this angel near Jimmy's casket at his wake. A copy of the same photo hangs in my office and I look at it every day and vow never to forget. My dad was a firefighter for over 30 years so I understand the dedication and loyalty of first responders. I've always said that my father was one of the greatest men that ever lived. Well I'm proud to say the Riches can be added to that short list of great men. I can only hope and pray that my 5 year old son will grow up to be like these true heros.
God Bless America.

First and foremost, I am deeply sorry for the loss suffered by the families on 9/11. They went in to the buildings to do their job without regard to the risk of their own life but ultimately paid with the ultimate sacrifice. Now the least we can do is remember them. I have seen an article in the NY POST about James Riches' campaign against Guiliani. Myself, being a serviceman that served at Ground Zero with the 42nd Inf., 101st Cavalry, I myself, have seen who the REAL heroes were, and it wasn't Guiliani. It was the names of guys I don't even know. It was the guys from NYPD, FDNY, PAPD and whoever else tried to help. It was people from small town USA and their fire departments. Guys that had nothing to do with NY or the attacks but came to help because their brothers were under the rubble and they had to get them, no matter what. They left their families to go and rescue their other family. I would like to know more about the James Riches' campaign because I agree 100%. Any info can be e-mailed to me at Chikndancer@aol.com Thank You and God Bless America

I met Jimmy at Breezy Point Surf Club. We were friends even during the winter. We would hang out, go to Xavier parties, and meet up at the Sugar Bowl. I then met up with him at a sausage stand at the San Gennaro Feast and caught up briefly. He was an amazing funny cool guy. He is missed by all.

I did not know Jimmy too well, but I do know his family. From what I have learned about him he is a hero, and a wonderful person. Jimmy is remebered, every moment of everyday and carries everyone with him. He is watching over us and taking care of his family and friends.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
