Thinking of all of you in the Ogonowski family today as I always do on this date. John is a hero in the truest sense of the word and he is missed by all. Gone too soon - his memory will live on in our hearts and minds. May you find peace and continue to make him proud.

I knew John and his family. I lived on the old Davidowitz family farm owned by his grandparents in Bradford, MA. On this day, I just want to say he and his family are in my thoughts this day.

Captain Ogonowski is strip 44-67 on the "Remember Me" quilt. He has not been forgotten.

I worked with John's brother, Joe. Joe always talked about his brother. They were a very close family. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who lost a loved one in this tragedy.

As a member of the Bishop Guertin community, I would like to express my deep sympathy and gratitude for the Ogonoski family. While I was a young adult at the time of this tragedy, the impact that it has had on my life has been deep and profound. It is difficult for me to think of a day where I do not reflect on 9/11. The one thing surrounding this event that has stayed with me to this day is the tremendous amount of class and dignity that the Oganowski family exuded during the most difficult time of their lives. Their love and courage is something that inspires me and drives me to this day, and I wish them the best of luck in all of their endeavors. God Bless

I never met you. You lived in the same town as me, about 3 streets over, actually. I'm young, and I never quite understood the feeling that I got from 9-11. I was only in 4th grade when it happened. Now, from reading, everything I read, it brings sorrow to me. And from this day forward, you will always be in my heart. May god bless you.

I'm glad this site is here. Let's hope others visit on this "day of days". I never met John. I knew Joe from my days at Delta Kappi Phi Umass Lowell. You'll always be here John!

As a member of this family, I'm so proud that I belong to this incredible family.

My son was in Caroline's class at BG, and the impact of this tragedy touched him greatly. As his mother, his pain for his classmate hurt me, as well. We will never forget the tragedy of 9/11 or the loss to our community. God bless the Ogonowski family.

My mom is a flight attendant, and she said she saw you a few times on the bus. I don't know what I would do without my mom or dad. You were incredibly brave to even become a pilot. God just really liked you, I guess.

My family and I will never ever forget you.

I never actually knew the Ogonowski family. My uncle worked at Logan and had communicated with him a couple of times before. I live in Dracut, and as soon as I found out what happened I started to cry.. I cried because I couldn't even imagine what it would be like losing my father or someone so close to me. Writing this, and reading all of the other comments 6 years later, still has me teary eyed. I drive past his corner a lot over the course of time, and every single time I pass it, I bow my head and pray, not only for him, but for his family. I just want to tell him that even though I didn't know you, you are still thought of and still remembered. You are a hero, and God bless you for that. I also want to tell his family they are the strongest people I have ever heard about. Losing someone that important to you must be tough, but you have survived and come through strong. My thoughts and prayers will always extend to you and John. God bless.

John, you and the rest of the crews and passengers in all four flights and those in the Pentagon will always be remembered by us and held sacred to us. May God bless and give the families strength with their loss throughout their lives, but especially every 9/11.

From a former Dracut resident and now Methuen. Bless you all.

Such a tragic loss to his family and society. A real hero in our time. My heart goes out to his family. Maybe a scholarship in his name might be fitting for future pilots.

Something to remember. Each time I drive by the street corner dedicated to John, I think of him and his family. I hope that the memorial placed there and the reason for its placement will never be forgotten.

Laura, I don't know if you remember me... But I am so so sorry about your dad, John. I hope you are doing well. You are in my and my twin sister Tasha's hearts..

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
