Jon was my cousin and childhood friend (my cousin Hank and Janie's son). We used to mess around at my grandparent's house in Riverside. He will be missed now as he was when I first heard thew horrible news!

I was Jon's college roommate at The University of Maryland in College Park. We were both in our sophomore year. I lost contact with him after College and was horrified to find out a year after 9-11 that he was in World Trade Center 1. I remember how easy going he was, very approachable with a sense of responsibility to others. He was loyal and kind. I will always have very fond memories of living with him that sophomore year. I wouldn't be the person I am today without the friendship we shared. My condolences to his family. He will never be forgotten and lives on in our memories. wjmansperger@gmail.com

On September 11, 2002, I participated in the Worldwide Rolling Requiem, which was a series of performances of the Mozart Requiem by choirs around the globe.  Here in Santa Barbara, each member of the several-hundred voice choir was given a heart-shaped badge to wear with the name of a 9/11 hero.  The name I wore was Jon Richard Grabowski's.

Since that memorial concert, I have sung the Mozart Requiem several more times, here in my hometown as well as in Europe.  Each performance I have dedicated in my heart to Jon Grabowski.

Although I did not know Jon, I have kept the heart-shaped badge with his name on my mirror since September 2002.  I often think of him and of the family and friends he left behind.  My heart goes out to all those who lost a loved one on that terrible day.

I read Tyler's research paper on Mr. Grabowski and developed a deep emotional connection with the victims of the tragedy. I've posted a huge story about it on my web-site at http://www.collegeisamovie.com/

I am a high school student in the state of Florida and was given the assignment to write a research paper on a person who was lost in the September 11 tragedy.  I began this project with a closed mind, and was really only concerned with getting a grade.  However, as I have researched this individual I have come to realize what an amazing person he was in life, what he had accomplished, and what he meant to so many people, especially his family and loving wife.  It also made me think about the others lost, and how so many people go on living their lives without one thought for those who have given up theirs.  Jon was an extremely intelligent and fun-loving person.  He was liked by everyone he met and has positively affected so many people in the course of his life.  I would like to send my condolences and my heart to the family of Jon Richard Grabowski.  Remember, he will always be with you.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
