I would also like to add to all of Jonathan's loved ones, and everyone who is suffering due to this horrible day that had occurred.
Please stay strong in body, mind and soul....  When I get to Heaven... I will then know Jonathan... Bless... Carol

I would like to say to the family of Jonathan that you indeed have a very special son. This picture is engraved in my heart and soul forever and will NEVER be forgotten. I am so very sorry for your loss as I am to all who suffered a tragic loss on 9-11.
I do not consider Jonathan "The Falling Man" but "The Falling Angel". Although we do not know each other I pray for you and Jonathan. He shall never be forgotten.
On 9-11 the world suffered a terrible loss... a hateful act beyond words, thoughts or speech. I will NEVER understand this terrible day... however I shall NEVER forget it either. God Bless your family as all the families who suffered such pain, misery and loss. May God keep ALL your souls safe and help to mend your broken hearts.
Wishing you all the best in the world.... thank you for sharing Jonathan with us...... Carol

It all seems like yesterday. We'll never forget you and all those beautiful innocent people that were murdered in September 11 /01 attacks. God bless your soul and grant you all eternal rest. As I'm writing, I'm watching the film "The falling man". It shows you've been at peace and floating in the air to meet your maker. Rest in Peace, and may God bless your family and give them the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

Continue to abide under his mighty wings.

If only this world was full of people like Jonathan, I often prayed for the man that man I seen falling, not knowing who he was, I now pray for Jonathan, and ask that he's ok, and happy, not scared. I hope that the family stays strong, as strong as their Jonathan was.

So many innocent people have died throughout the world for years for one reason and another.
I pray that my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will remain in our hearts and minds  and that people will not ignore the fact that he came and died and rose again to save our sins. God bless.

I can't imagine how bad it must have been that the better option was to jump from such a height. You will always be kept alive in memory. Rest in peace. x

What a hero! I hope the peacefulness and tranquility that was displayed in the photo of you lasted until your last moment.
Rest in peace!

The eighth anniversary of 9/11/2001 is almost here. So much has changed, yet it has not really. You, "the falling man," chose either to burn or freefall to your death. I think your photo will be an enigma for all time to catch that fateful, inevitable time that will come to us all, which is of course death. Yours, however, was caught on photo for all to see. Yet no one wants to see, yet does want to see because of curiosity. How disturbing to want to see the most private thing, which is dying. Rest in peace, my fellow American, for you did not want this sick thing called "memorable images of 9/11."

We will always remember you!

My heart feels deep sympathy for your family, Jonathan. If that "Falling Man" was you, then eternal respect lies with you for deciding how your own life would end. You had control and respect for your own life. If you weren't, the fact that you were lost on that terrible day, even at all, is sad enough. Rest in eternal peace, Jonathan. My love to his family.

I have just watched the documentary "The Falling Man," and it made me think back to that day. It was as if the world stood still, the whole world was in mourning. In the documentary they wanted to find out who the falling man was. And it led them to you. There was uproar about this photograph that they published, but it truly captured the horrific events of that day. The public didn't want to accept the picture, didn't want to believe it was true. But if it was you, Jon, I want to thank you. You, in your last moments, decided that whatever had happened wasn't going to be the end of you, someone else wasn't going to decide your fate, but you did yourself. You really captured the free will of the human race, and although the outcome meant you died, the falling man will live forever.

"For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

Eric's plans were complete, and he has left us with hope and dreams for completing the plans that God has placed in our hands. See you in heaven, Eric.

I want to tell the family of the late Jonathan Briley that I give you the deepest condolences for your loss. I really do believe he's in God's care. I tried to put myself in that same situation as those people in the towers, and I cannot really say what I would have or should have done. I am at a loss for words and actions when it comes to that conclusion. I also watched the documentary on youtube today, and for some strange reason I had a special connection to that photo. Even though he's pictured upside down, there is such a calm and serene peaceful look to him. His body my have died a horrific death, but I believe that the heavenly angels sent to summon him carried him peacefully to Jesus' arms.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
