Katie and I went to SHA together. Years later I can remember her BEAUTIFUL smile and gentle, loving soul. She ia always remembered....

Not a day goes by that you are not in my thoughts. No day is ever taken for granted as I have learned each day is a gift to be cherished, I continue to live my life in the memory of your smile and compassion, Kate. I miss you so.

No words that I can offer could ever assuage any of the grief felt by the McGarry and Noack families and all the friends to Katie.  Thanks to Patrick McGarry, Katie's picture and story graced our operations center for much of our deployment to Iraq.  The officers and soldiers with whom I worked had a most beautiful, radiant guardian angel watching over them. We felt her presence, we rallied to her warmth, we channeled her spirit. I feel less of a person to not have known her personally--many of us shared the same thought.

Aviators take solace in a wonderful sonnet written in 1940 by a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot, Officer Gillespie Magee. It is called "High Flight."  I believe it to be one of the most beautiful and thought-provoking pieces ever written.  I think many of us see Katie in this very light.

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Be at Peace, Katie. Your grace is endless.

Katie--we all miss you so much!  Thank you for being such a wonderful friend to my sister Claire.  I have such fond memories...I really looked up to you and Claire when I was younger.  I feel blessed to have known you. I can still hear your laugh...  Please continue to watch over us.  God Bless you and your family always.

i believe that that day everybody lost something inside them not just when a relation dies but our spark of hope to allow people to be free was blew out i write to say how sorry i am for your loss and how difficult it must be to move on with your life. on that day in september i too lost something that was great in my life and that was my darling fiance Todi Harten. he too decided to brave the aftermath of the disaster but he stood only too close too help as they blew out so did he and i have not been able to come to terms with it. so together whether with friend or family you must move on with life. as i found that although i lost my man i also have a part of him with me as i found out that i was pregnant with his child. little Ryan is now nearly 3 now as he was born on 23rd march he was early and for that i thank him because he rekindled my love for people who go out to make the world a better place and i too will never let my love rest for my man but i know now that he will be with me for life. so my heart goes out to all and i hope for one and all time we can enjoy a better world away from the terrorism and hatred that fills this world.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
