10 YEARS LATER AND WE STILL REMEMBER. THANK YOU FOR BEING THE MAN THAT MANY OF US FAIL TO BE.

I am Malik Maynard, nephew of Keithroy Maynard.

Uncle Keith,

I miss you a lot. Every day I awake and ask, "Why did this have to happen?" I just want you to know that I love you and miss you. Also, I am going to F.D.N.Y. High School for fire and life safety. It is fun, and I came to understand why you liked it here. The F.D.N.Y. is like a family outside of your regular family. Well, right now I am taking CFR (Certified First Responder) classes. I will be taking a test sometime this year to become certified. I guess I'm following in your footsteps.

Love you. Bye....

Keith,

You have been a true friend, a college brother. 9-11 has been very difficult for me for the past couple of years. I've lost a good friend and a Caribbean brother. May god bless you and you family.

I lived on 11th street as a child, right next to ladder 122 and Engine 220 (well, a few houses up). I moved from that block in the year 2000 to California. All of the men working there played an important role in my childhood, and having them on the block meant safety to us. I'm very saddened by this, and it's a huge loss to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters. My thoughts are with them, my prayers are with Keithroy. I'll never forget.

Mr. Maynard...the events that took place on September 11th shook me forever. I will never forget what I was doing that morning--I was blow drying my hair, getting ready for school. As I looked at the television through my mirror....I saw a skyscraper on fire and tears flew down my eyes. I don't think that the emotions I felt at that moment will ever be matched, and that is why I decided to purchase a "POW-like" copper bracelet that had a random fire fighters' name on it that was lost that day. I wanted to be reminded of those events...to keep me in check. I recieved yours. Immediatly I tried looking up information on you, but only found some through the company I purchased the bracelet through. Now, a couple years later, I know more about you. You had a family, a son, goals in your life. You were one of the few black fire fighters and I respect you for that.  I also am proud of you. I've never met you, but the courage you showed on that horrific day is something that gives me strength everyday and I'm sure your son as well. I wil never forget what you or any other fire fighter did that day, and I will pass on this bracelet as a family airloom, so that no one will forget you or what you did.
I look forward to meeting you when the time is right.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner. The revenue goes back to maintaining this site.

Thank you for your understanding in these matters.
