Kenny - you and I never met even though – ironically - we lived just a few blocks from each other in Paterson. Yesterday I attended the "Empty Sky Memorial" at Liberty State Park. A beautiful and moving memorial honoring your memory and the memory of over 700 others New Jerseyans who were called to Heaven on 9/11/01. I had the honor of meeting your mother at the memorial. What a wonderful lady. Her enormous love for you was so beautifully palpable. She clearly still misses you enormously. Despite her obvious grief, she is a strong woman who is determined to keep your memory alive. As you look down at her from Heaven - I know you must be as proud of her and she is of you.

I do not know Kenny. I just received his name at random to dedicate my Facebook status to his memory. I wanted to see if I could find any information on this young man - to know him. Reading his family and friends posts, tells me he was an amazing person, like all the others that perished that day. RIP Kenneth P. Lira Arevalo. Hearts are still hurting for you.

Kenny,

I miss you so much! <3 It has been ten years since you died and left my heart. I am eleven, and I know the whole story about you and that you died two days before my birthday on September 13. You are guarding me now from a great place. I hope you can be playing with your dog that went up there not to long ago. :( I know I never got to say "bye" to you because I could not even talk then. You're always in my prayers! :(

Goodbye,
Hailey <3

I have never met you, but I got to meet your parents and brother recently. I can tell you, you are loved and missed by them and all people that got to meet you and know of you. You will always be remembered.

Primo,

Michelita

[Ed. - Cousin, without a doubt you're unforgettable and very loved. And I know that you're with our Lord Jesus and in his divine kingdom. All of us will be reunited at some time or somehow to follow our legacy together and forever. My most pleasant memories [were] when as children we used to play and fuss at our grandmother and grandfather's house. I love you so much!]

I remember playing soccer with Kenny in high school. I always remember him laughing and having a happy spirit about him. He was a great person. I am now a high school soccer coach, and many times I tell my kids to hold on and enjoy the special times in their lives. I remember running around with Kenny on the field at PC playing soccer, and they were great days. I tell my athletes to enjoy it, and I have told them about Kenny. It has been over 19 years since I last saw him, but I think of him often. I hope you and your family are doing well. God bless.

Kenny will always be missed, he was one of my closest friends I grew up with. We had some great times, that are now great memories. He always influenced me into improving myself. Now on every 9/11 its
his day of remembrance. His family has a church ceremony and then a visual at his old house. Wherever I am, I plan on keeping up this tradition. I owe him that much. Friends Forever.

I still think about the first time I met Kenny. He came by my apartment trying to sell me raffle tickets for his high school. A few years later we would get together with Mike and his dad Pepe. God bless, Kenny, I know you're in God's kingdom in the best of times!

Eternal rest grant on to him, O Lord.
And may perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen.

On the 7th Anniversary, I just wanted to let the family know that you are in my thoughts and prayers today and always. May God grant you healing and peace.

Kenny it has been 5 years already, and everyday that goes by I think of that morning on September 11, I remember just staring at the tv and hoping and praying that you did not go to work that day. I remember trying to call your cell phone and your job and nobody answered. I remember calling Mike and mi tia and telling them that something had happened to the WTC,and if they had heard from you. But as we all know now that we never heard from you again. I miss you so much words can not explain. I wish I can go back to September 10, again, when you came over and were playing with Hailey your Goddaughter then 1 and telling her about her birthday present. (her birthday is September 13) She never got to see you again either, but she sees you in her heart and through the stories I tell her about you, that you were my best friend, and that you were always there for me. Kenny I miss you and I hate every September 11, because I remember that you suffered and that there is nothing I can do about it. Well Hailey is now 7 and is starting to understand. Kenny you will always be in my heart, te quiero y te adoro my primo, tu eras mas que un primo eras como un hermano para mi, yo siempre te vi como mi hermano. Yo se que tu nos estas cuidando desde el cielo.

Hi. I knew Kenny from his brother Mike. We all grew up together. I remember watching the Soprano's at Johnny's house and Kenny always left early to get up for work. He was an extremely kind man. I will never forget the generous heart he had. He had a lot of love for his family.

I worked with Kenny's family when I was at the medical examiner's office. I'm trying to reach Kenny's mom to give her a story I wrote about her and her son. I am writing a book and with her permission would like to use it. If you are in touch with her, could you give her my name and email address?

Thank you.

It's been nearly 5 years since you have been gone and I think about you every day. The pain is still very fresh as if it happened yesterday. The hope that I get is that I know we will see each other again one day. Until then I'll keep you close to my heart each and every day of my life.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
