I nevr had the Honor of meeting Firefighter/Hazmat Chief Kevin Smith. I have however had been told that it is what we leave behind on this earth that is testament to who we are in Gods world.
I have had the privlige to know Kevins two twin daughters and have seen that the legacy "IS" these exceptional young women and his Sons who I do not know but understand serve this country as their father has in so many ways
I know Jennifer very well and thru the years can say that she is a friend that I love very much because of whom she is, I always blame the parents when we have these "Golden Hearts" that cross our paths. Josephine has also become a friend and has the same beautiful qualities as her sister. I again blame the parents, and there are no conscience!

Jen get in touch with me, your boys miss you ( Ziggy and Redford) her horses and your freiend misses you!

Kevin and I were High School Sweethearts. We were best friends. Kevin was the most amazing, considerate, thoughtful, loving soul I had and have ever met. We both went to the Senior Prom 1972 together. It was an amazing event. Shortly there after, Kevin enlisted in the Marines. I attended his Camp LeJuene Graduation with his wonderful Parents. Kevin spoke to me often his desire to be in service to others. Kevin often spoke of wanting to be part of something so big in this country to leave his mark. Kevin went on his tour of Duty and we lost touch for many years. We reconnected Via internet Island Trees High School website in 2000. I was thrilled to talk to him on the telephone and to speak to his lovely wife Jerri. We all made plans to reunite, 911 prevented that.... Kevin, I have been deeply affected as I did not get to see your precious smile and to say so much to you. Gone too soon...Certainly G-d gathers in the truly good ones. For you, Kevin are a truly "Good One" Kevin you were my Rock so long ago, I owe you so much, Thank you for all you gave to me. I never forgot you, what we shared, and the mark you made in my life. I will Love you Always, Josette

9 years have passed and he is not forgotten. I heard his name today and my heart sank once again for his family. He was a true Hero. God Bless

I miss your smile, too. Thank you for giving and sharing it with love to my sister, Jerri.

Kevin,

You live in my spirit. I went to island trees with you. I remember when you joined the Marine Corps with Kevin Kinsley. You were kind; you were brave. I pay tribute to you in my song and video about 911 called "Freedom's Cry" on Youtube. I honor you and your family. I can't imagine the loss, the pain, that they felt and must still feel.
Semper fi, my friend, you will live in my heart and spirit forever.

Kevin,

I think I met you once. You lived in my house in Moriches before I did, and you're missed; you are a hero.

I knew Kevin Smith from the Mastic Fire Department. I worked with his Ex wife Angela and my boyfriend at the times father was an Ex Chief of the Mastic Fire Department. I remember him from parties and official functions or even just coming up to play pool at the firehouse rec-room. He was a friendly and outgoing person; he seemed to love to smile. I remember when he became engaged to Jerri and I remember his children, his two beautiful red haired daughters and son attending parties and parades. Kevin was a good man. Even 8 years later I do not forget what he sacrificed to save people. I remember him as a hero, a selfless person that dedicated his life to saving others whether in NYC or on Long Island.
He was a true HERO.

I've never met you and knew nothing about you. I was given a project to do in college, and I decided to do it on the 9-11 attacks. I wanted to pick one person who died on the day to humanise the paper, learn about their life and what they were doing in the time leading up to that moment, their families, etc. Well, Kevin, you picked me, so rest well and may your family be proud of you.

I miss you so much. I miss your strength and love. Sometimes I feel everyday without you is harder but most days I know it is better because you were in my life. And you will be forever. I wonder if there is someone alive today that remembers your smile inside that Tower as you helped them out of there. Only they could know how much your family misses that sense of warmth and security you gave us with that smile. That is the heaven I look forward to. I will always Love you.

To my greatest hero. I am who I am because of who you were. I miss you so much.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
