I met your family at Peace Lutheran Church, Waldorf MD on Sept. 12, 2001 and we grieved together although I did not know about Kris. I heard about how sad his mother was and was deeply concerned about your family, and have been thinking about you on today the 10th anniversary. I also ran in the run one year later to raise money for Children;s Hospital in his name. I have been thinking about you all day. Love, Kathy

Kris, Today you have been gone 10 years. It feels like yesterday that we were together in english class, Going to the senior prom and graduating high school. It hard to believe that you were one of the fallen. I think of you often, wondering how your family is doing. You and your family are always in my prayers. I thank you for your service and I will see you again soon. Rest in Peace my friend.

Dearest friend,

We spent many days together that I will never forget: Your love for Prince, and the time the bird flew into your sunroof as we were driving down the freeway the first time I went home to meet your lovely family. Your sisters were merely kids then.

Tonight ... I hope that they have greater peace in their hearts, knowing that we (America) have captured the shell of a man who took a way another great man (you) and many others.

So how does someone meet a person who no longer walks the face of this earth? It is a strange question that many people do not think about. But it does happen, and it is through websites like the 9-11 Heroes as well as through those that were closest to the victims, their family and friends. It is the kindness and generosity of Romeo Bishundat that makes me a better person. I find myself paying the auto toll for the person behind me (one of Romeo's "things" he would do), giving out some spare change, or just simply doing the small random acts of kindness like slowing down to hold open a door for someone — and I do it each time with the thought that it is what Romeo would have done. He was a good man, a wonderful son, a loving brother, and an inspiration that lives on.

Mr. and Mrs. Bishundat,

We met briefly at the Baltimore airport, about a week ago, as I was returning from Afghanistan. It was a moving moment for me, and I want to thank you again for your service and sacrifice. Also for the hug, Mrs. Bishundat. I cannot imagine your pain, and I greatly admire your actions, greeting soldiers, sailors, and airmen that you encounter. I am truly honored to have met you and to have learned about your son.

Aboard the USS Shreveport-LPD12, everyone knew him as "Bish". He was known for his upbeat personality and his ear to ear smile. "Bish" loved life and he loved his job. He was an exemplary sailor and it was an honor serving with him.

Romeo will always be in our hearts. He was such a wonderful young man. We think of his family every day, and what a loss they have suffered.

My thoughts go our to Romeo's parents and siblings. It's still so hard to believe what happened that day and how many people passed away just living a normal life of going to work. We never thought that when our loved ones left that morning, we would never see them again. I am so sorry for your loss.

As the years roll by, we find that our memories have grown sharper and stronger. May our Lord continue to keep Romeo and all the fallen heroes by His side until we meet in Joy again. God bless America, always and forever.

Hi Kamo and family

Hope all is well with you and your family and I always think of you. My son recently visited me in Georgia. He is about the same age as Romeo and there is that connection that I have with you when I went to Guyana to visit. I remember spending the day with you and your family when both our sons were babies. When it comes to September 11th my thoughts are always with you. Whenever I drive past Maryland I always remember you and your family. Kamo, I know how much you miss your son. Your heart may be broken, but always remember Romeo is watching over you and your love ones...

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.
