I have so early childhood memories with you Kristen (and Karen and Jamie Ellen and Libby!). I remember my sister Theresa being the grown up and babysitting us all. I could not write down all that we did in such a short time, and although through the years we did lose touch, you and karen were always always in our hearts. I remember discovering Led Zeppelin IV on your Moms Record player and playing Tangerine over and over again. Whenever I hear that, I get chills because I feel like you are standing next to me. Rock on in Heaven Kristen Forever. Love Carol n Theresa.

I only met Kristen once or twice, but I commuted to NYC with Jamie regularly. I think of you all often. God bless you on this 10th anniversary of a horrible event in US history.

Kristen,

I met you and Karen the first time in DeMatti's Park Camp with my sister, and you and I connected, and Rosie and Karen connected. They were "girlie girls"; we weren't. I didn't see you thru the winter months, but you were my best summer friend back then, in the way that only kids can be.... I miss you, and I wonder what wonderful things you would have accomplished or how many people's lives you would have touched.... I KNOW your sisters and Mom miss you every day. Godspeed, girl!

I was at my daughter's soccer camp in Harvey Cedars, NJ this morning, and I took a walk to the water with my two-year-old son and my dog while I waited for her to finish. I noticed the beautiful park bench with Kristen's name engraved. Today is August 26th, and a balloon and flowers were attached to the bench. As I read the dates on the bench, I realized it was her birthday today and that she passed away on 9/11/01. Just reading the date brought to my eyes tears and images I'd rather not remember. You see, I was at 1 World Trade Center on the morning of 9/11/01. I often ask myself why I survived. As I look at my little son's smiling face and listen to my daughter's laughter on the field, I have to believe it was because they were meant to be. My heart and prayers go out to your family.

Sunset Park, Harvey Cedars, NJ (LBI)

I walk my dog at this park, and I noticed a young woman's name etched on a bench: Kristen Leigh Montanaro 8/26/67 - 9/11/01.... Just the date alone speaks for itself. Every time I walk pass that bench, I look out into the bay and say a prayer for you and your family. On 8/26 of every year, I make a special trip to your bench to see the flowers and the sentiments that are left ... and again I say a prayer for you ... and wish you a Happy Birthday. I will always pray for you.

Love,
Roz and Hamilton (my dog)

I grew up with the girls, Kristen, Karen and Jamie and let's not forget lil Libby. We were the Maryland Street Crew.I remember so many good times all of us had, from beating up the kid down the street "CLEM"...lol, to sleigh riding down by Labetti Post. We built go carts, had tree houses and a club house out back of the "TWINS" yard. I remember Ellen working in a plant store and always had plants all over the house.I remember Ellen dating Jim at the time with his yellow car always fixing it...lol. We hung out at either the TWINS house or my great grams house "HONEY", or we would be making one of our million trips to the little candy store "VICS", to buy sweedish fish or flying saucers for a penny. We all went to camp at Damaties Summer Camp, went to Tottenville Pool and planted a garden. We would love when the roller skating truck would come or Kristens favorite was the Tennis truck. We would play dodge ball in the sprinkler area, or a checkers championship on the wall. Yes we were all pals. Karen, Kristen, and Jamie were my best friends growing up. They were the best! Ellen and Jimmy were awsome too!
I feel bad that through the years of H.S. we lost touch with each other, I married and had 3 children, moved to Florida, then after my divorce, moved back to Rosebank. I don't think anyone ever really leaves Rosebank. I saw Kristen many times walking past my home on Tompkins Ave with her walkman on, I guess headed to the beach. So many times in my busy life, I wanted to invite her in and talk about old times, but never had the time them. Now all I have are memories of us as kids, and a few pictures, I keep on my dresser. I was an EMT-D for a private comany out of Staten Island when the Towers were hit. We were all called over there to help. All I could think about was who was in those buildings, and we have to get them out. I was stationed at Chelsea Piers, had surgical tents set up at Liberty Island NJ, but nothing came over. I still cry for you Kristen and all my other friends I have lost over there. But when I do visit Staten Island frequently, I always stop by the Angel Garden and find you and talk a while, it helps. It also helps knowing you are in Heaven with my mom, I hope you two have met up there, I know she would just love you! I know your up there in Heaven singing Rock N Roll with the Angels, Miss you bunches Kristen.
Your Childhood Best Friend, Lisa Maglio

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
