Lauren, may you and your beautiful baby know eternal peace in the hands of the Lord in Heaven. The two of you will never be forgotten, especially by those of us who never got to meet you.

Lauren, I did not know you but I know your story. I cried when I heard your name read out. God bless you and your beautiful unborn child. X

Lauren is my own personal hero from 9/11. She was so brave in the face of panic and anxiety. Her dreams of becoming an author were coming true, and she was also three months pregnant with her first child, which makes me cry every time. Lauren was a true hero and set a great example. I feel so much sorrow for Jack Grandcolas and Lauren's family. You will be in my thoughts always. Rest in peace, Lauren Grandcolas and her unborn child.

Cara  <3 xoxo

A beautiful memorial (Lauren's Garden) has been created in the new Market Street park in downtown Houston. I never met Lauren, but a bust of her in the park gives you a real sense of her courage and strength, while an adjacent waterfall soothes your spirit. An excellent tribute to an American hero. We must never forget!

God Bless you Lauren, you are still remembered and honored by so many. Rest in peace.

Mt thoughts are with you, Lauren, and with all those who loved you and lost you. It breaks my heart that your unborn child's life was taken before it had even begun, and I cannot even imagine how scared you were on that plane, knowing your baby was inside you, but I hope you are together in heaven now in a peaceful and safe place. May god bless. x

Thank you for being a hero. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. May God bless you and comfort you in your time of grief.

You can see by her bright smile in her photo that she was obviously a very, very special person. My heart really goes out to her husband and the rest of her family. I cannot imagine what they went through and are continuing to go through still to this day. If I could bring her back for you, I certainly would.

Dear Lauren,

I am so deeply sorry your life and the life of your unborn child were taken from this world so suddenly. I feel for you and your beloved Jack. I didn't know you, but I know you are holding your beautiful baby close to your heart in heaven now. Sleep with the angels in peace.

Thank you Lauren for being the person you are.

I read the book about flight UA 93 and was very touched by what the victims had to go through. I am myself working for Lufthansa German Airlines and was on duty at our Station-Control-Center in Berlin, Germany on September 11 when those hijackings took place. I found detected a couple of similarities in Lauren's and my life and reflected a lot how brave it was to react the way she did and how hard it must be to know that you will be torn apart from your loved ones so suddenly. I want to express my deep condolence and hope that you, Jack, found a way to go on with your life despite that terrible loss. Your wife should be an example for all of us - to be thankful for every day we have and make the best out of our life.
Kind regards, Nicola (age 36)

I made it. I ran my first race. It was as if you were with me the entire time.

Just wanted to let you know that I named my daughter (born 9 8 2002) Kaycee Lauren Starr in memory of ms Grandcolas.

Our second born child was conceived on 9/11.  When we found out she was a girl we looked up the list of victims from 9/11 and chose Lauren. I was also 38 years old, the same age as Ms. Grandcolas.  Just our own small personal tribute.

may you rest in peace.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
