At Sunday Mass in honor of the 10 year Anniversary of 911, I was given a card with your name on it to pray for you and your family. May you rest in peace and may your family be at peace.

I visited my birthplace Amsterdam last year and my last remaining Uncle Ed (94) told me that you were related to me! Some family members left Amsterdam many years ago and settled in New York. I believe you come from that tree of our family.
I never knew you Lawrence but I am proud to share your name. My you rest in peace and thank you for your service to this country. We will never forget you!

Today I ran the 'Tunnel to Towers' 5K run held at Joint Base Balad, Iraq. I was handed a tag with Lawrence Veling's name on it. Today this firefighter ran for you and the family you left behind, sir. You will never be forgotten! God bless you.

God bless Larry and his family today and each day. Larry is my brother's brother-in-law. My brother lost his young wife, Loretta, Larry's sister, a year before 9-11. He is godfather to one of my nephews. Then a year after losing his mom, my poor young nephew lost Larry, his godfather. Larry was a really great guy, and everyone loved him.... My prayers are with his family and all the families of 9-11 today. Let's give peace a chance.

I grew up with Larry and his family. He and my brother are the same age and were good friends. We lived next door for 20 years. Larry was always smiling and kind and genuine. After moving from the neighborhood, I would see him when visiting, and he always made me feel like we still lived right next door. I was aware he had become a fireman, and when 9/11 happened, I found out that he was one of the many victims, and I remember it all becoming very personal. I'll never forget that, but more important, I will never forget my neighbor and friend, Larry.

I did not now Larry but he was my mom's first cousin which would make him my second cousin. Knowing that he ran into a burning building while people were running out is all I need to know about him to be so very proud! I pray for his wife and children every Sunday Mass. I wished I could have known him here on earth. I moved away from Gerritsen Beach when I was three. I would have been a better person knowing Larry as I do not have a brave bone in my body. Maybe Larry could have taught me a thing or two about honor, selflessness or bravery. Thanks to his heroism, so many people survived. I look forward to the heavenly day that I can meet you, Larry.
Your Cousin,
Ivy Veling Regazzi

When I was in my 20's, and still mildly athletic, my pick up baseball team would challenge Jimmy cappiello and his boys. Larry was a fixture behind homeplate, volunteering his time to umpire. This was not little league, and he was not compensated for his contribution. He just enjoyed helping. And he was great at it. I will never forget wondering why he would spend an occasional 95 degree summer day behind the plate, catching lip from us "Super Stars".

I might not have known Mr. Veling, but he is definitely remembered. The Anchorage Fire Department of Anchorage Alaska had t-shirts made for all of the firefighters of Engine 235 (one name per shirt). I purchased a t-shirt with Mr. Veling's name on it. I pray for his family and all others families that lost a loved one of September 11. God bless those who give their life for the freedom of others.

I remember Larry from Old/New Dutch farms. Just a super nice guy wearing his "GB" hat and always pleasent and generous to the kids as we were growing up. My condolences to all close to him, he is not forgotten.

I know Larry for many years he was my older sons baseball coach
and also owned a store in my old neighborhood where I shopped everyday. Larry was always a pleasant person and someone you could always talk to.

I lived next door to his grandmother in Brooklyn. I remember Larry from his visits with her and from various events we attended together. I remember Larry prior to his service with the fire department when he worked in the deli in Gerritsen Beach. He was friendly, sensitive, and kind. He was always willing to reach out to others.
May God bless his family and never forget this wonderful hero who gave his life that others might live.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
