I am on the Ashland City Fire Department and was part of the Nashville Stair Climb today. I got the honor of having Lincoln there with me in spirit and helping my push to get it done. I just wanted to let his family know that his soul made it to the top. He helped me finish even when I thought I could. He is a true hero and everytime I think about about 9/11 and all the people lost Lincoln will always stand out.

To Lincoln's family and friends:
I pray for Lincoln Quappe every day of my life, even though I never knew him. When the terrorist attack occurred, my brother, Audie Hittle, told me that he had enjoyed working with Lincoln's mother. I felt so moved by Lincoln's sacrifice that I felt I must send his mother a condolence letter. I wanted her to know how inspirational her son's bravery was to me. It inspires me on a daily basis. I believe it is important to let people know that we are with them in prayer and thought. Each day when I am working with children, I think of Lincoln and am inspired by him — and others — who by just doing their jobs are heroes. His presence lives on. So many wonderful individuals do their jobs each day and touch others, although they will never know how important they are to all of us. I hope his family is well, and I will continue to keep him and his in my thoughts and prayers on a daily basis. Someone cares.

Lincoln Quappe was my uncle. We used to visit NY every summer, and Uncle Linc was the best uncle I could have ever asked for. He was always there for you and always a prankster. I am now an EMT because of him. He is my inspiration every day, and I have his badge necklace on every day. I hope to one day be like him. He will never be forgotten.

It was still early in 2001 when I got assigned to a house fire from my dispatcher, the house fire being in my sector. My partner and I got on scene of the confirmed house fire (Bushwick, Brooklyn). The fire was soon extinguished by the FDNY without incident. As all the firemen where exiting the building, I yelled to one of the firemen to get Lincoln's attention as he was walking back to his rig. Lincoln walked over to me, and we talked about our families, and then Lincoln asked me about my hash marks on my left sleeve of my jacket. I told Lincoln they for time on the job. Then we said our goodbyes to each other. As he was walking back to his rig, we yelled to each other, "Be safe!" We both volunteered at our local fire department. Lincoln was and always will be a firemen's fireman. May he rest in eternal peace.

Shortly after the attacks, a small company was selling sterling bracelets with names of people who died that terrible day. You could pick a specific name or have them send a random one. I requested a fire fighter from NY. I got Lincoln's name. For one full year after receiving the bracelet, I prayed for him, his family, his friends, and his family at the fire house each and every night. I wore it non-stop for 2 years. Now, reflecting on that day, I pulled out my bracelet and decided to google his name, never thinking I would find a website for him. To his friends and family, there was a woman in Colorado who knew nothing of him, but he was in her thoughts daily. I have often thought of traveling to NY to try to find his fire house, not knowing even where to start, but finding this today of all days is comforting. Thank you, Lincoln!

Lincoln was my cousin, and, although I never met him, he's still my hero. I met his father when my grandfather died, and I hope that Lincoln was as good a man as he is, although I'm sure he was.

I knew Linc from volunteering out at Mashomack. He was the type of guy who could be a clown one moment, yet save the damsel in distess the next (mighty foe of jellyfish)! He is a true hero and will be missed always.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
