I wanted to let you know that I was honored to do a memorial hike up Monserate Mt near Fallbrook CA in his name; I tried to carry him in my heart while I walked. I am grateful that he was there to help on that horrible day.

I remember and will never forget Sep 11,2001, my friend and brother Captain Vernon A. Richard perish on that terrible day. I could not make the 10th Anniversary ceremony at ground zero of the passing of my friend Vernon. My heart goes out to the family. I remember as a young boy the times he would come up to my family apartment in the Marcy Projects and BS with my brother Robert and Yvonne my sister. Momma Richard at time would take care of me and my brother Chris and when Vernon would come home after school would sit in the Kitchen and have launch with us. He was like a big brother to us and I will miss him like a brother.

My memories of Vernon were 143rd st...Firehouse of Engine 60 and Ladder 17...I remember Vernon always standing outside of the firehouse smiling with his hands in his pockets...never saying much, however whatever he told us kids from the neighborhood, we listened to him and had very much respect for him. Vernon, you are truly a hero...you gave your life for something that you loved...I know you are standing right next to our Creator above, probably with those hands in your pockets :-) and smiling...rest well Vernon, you are missed and truly respected and much loved!
Love always your friend Theresa

I never met Vernon Allen Richard; however, I walked 110 stories in his honor on 9/11/2010. I did this with the Sacramento Fire Department. It was an honor to walk those steps for a man I never knew, who quite obviously touched so many lives. For our hero, Vernon Allen Richard.

I have never met Lt Richard, but from what I have read and seen, he was a very good man. I am doing a project in my U.S. history class, and I found his name, so I wanted to do my project about him. And I am very honored to do my project about him.

My best memories of Mr. Richard were how he always jogged long distances throughout Rockland County (New York), and I would always say to myself, "He is in better shape than me!" Every time I run, jog, or walk ... I think to always keep one foot in front of the other for the sake of my health and his memory. He will always inspire me. He will be greatly missed.

From our childhood community in the 50's and 60's, together we all watched the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still." It stood still for us again on 9/11/01. Your heroic sacrifice will never be forgotten. May your family be comforted will all heads held high for the sacrifice you made for the many in the Towers and all of us in NYC and the Country.

On 9-11-08 I participated in a memorial stair climb in Denver Colorado and was given the name and picture of Lt. Vernon A. Richard. I didn't know Lt Richard, and I haven't even been to New York. I, like most Americans, watched the events of 9-11-01 on TV. I just wanted to take the time to honor Lt Richard and the other 342 firefighters that gave their lives on that day in an effort to save thousands of people. I also wanted to tell the family of Lt Richard how sorry I am for their loss and that the thoughts and prayers of my family are with them. I was honored to climb in his memory.

Captain Vernon Allen Richard was my uncle.
Thie one thing that I remember about him the most was his smile. He was always happy. He loved his family and his friends.
He was proud to be a firefighter!

us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,

- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
