I carried the nametag of Vincent in the Richmond,VA memorial stair climb on 9-11. We climbed 110 stories in honor of those who were lost. As a firefighter myself, I was honored to ring the bell in honor of Vincent.

On 9-11-2011 we participated in a motorcycle memorial run in Valley City ND. It was sponsored by the Red Knights, a motorcycle club of fire men in town. The money raised is used to help victims in our area. Flags were passed out in memory of the NY firemen. We received Vincents and carried it proudly and said a prayer for the family. God Bless.

I participated in the Colorado 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb this morning. I wore a sticker in honor of you. It had a picture and your name. You will always be remembered as a true hero.

I never met Capt. Giamonna or his family. I was a boy hood friend of his father and mother in-law Vinny and Fran. We continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

On this 10th anniversary of 9/ll, we wanted to say "Thank You"
for your service, your dedication, and your courage. May God bless you and keep you in the palm of his hand. May He always smile down on and bless your family. We shall never forget.

It sounds like life is hard for the Giammona Family, I can sympathize enough. I was 5 when the closest person died an that was my grandmother and then my Aunt Pat and then My Great Uncle Fredrick. so You guys still have a lot of hope and a long line of happiness. :-)

Dear friends,family and Vince,
I never knew you, I never met you or never spoke to you, however I visited ground zero the day before the ten year anniversary and I now am the proud owner of a wrist band with your name on it and will take this back to Australia with me and wear it proudly as a make of respect from me to you for the supreme sacrifice you made that day

Dear Sir:

Today, September 10, 2011, I am humbled and honored to participate in the Chicago Fire Department 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in your name. God Bless You and all who have sacrificed everything for all.

Even though we only briefly crossed paths through mutual friends in Flushing and Al Ianno I will never forget volunteering at ground zero with the Red Cross.
But the monent that brought a flurry of tears to my eyes was at your memorial service in valley Stream. I actually was in tears I could no longer hold back as ZI watched your Littlegirls carry your flag out of the church. It even brings tears to my eyes thinking about this now.
I wish I could bring you back for your daughters.

Dear Captain,

I don't remember you that much, but I've heard stories about you from my parents. When I was 14, I first entered the fire service. I've been doing it now for 4 years, and I love every second of it. In about a year I am going to be made a LT of my fire department, just as you once were. People often ask me why I ever became a firefighter, and every time I tell them the same thing: Number 1, I love the job, just like you. And number 2, to honor your memory. Some day soon I hope to join the FDNY and be a great fireman just like you are. We are always thinking of you, Cap.

Dear Captain,
I wrote about your namesake and our riding academy on the family tribute site last year. I gave hundreds of rides every year to so many children and we often wonder how your family is doing. I often wonder how much they would enjoy knowing the horse who was meant to carry your story. Hundreds of people come and learn about how God still answers prayers for people like Erica (your neighbor) and I. We will continue to pray for all of you.
God Bless you

I miss you a lot! I love you! You would be proud of what I have been doing. I made their 1 womens hockey on the 19u team. I've been working hard. Mom misses you sooo much; she thinks about you every day. I'm wearing your pull box pub shirt :-) Vincent was a great dad and fireman.

Vinny, I know your girls and wife miss you very much. I never really got the chance to know you (considering the fact that I was only 6), but I want you to know that I think about you a lot, even to this very day. You will be forever missed.

Always in our memory, Cap.

I miss you, Vin! I miss that smile and your laugh. I even miss always losing to you in an arm wrestling match, and when you joked after I handed you a $20 bill at the Pull Box and you would hold it up and read, "Dear Mario, Happy Communion! Love, Grandma." HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VINNY! You are loved and missed by many!

Your friend,
Mario

I never knew Vincent Giammona, but I had to leave a comment. I am a military vet, so I leave my respects to my fellow Giammona in uniform. Forever on his tour of duty, one might say.

I am just getting up to speed on some of the history of the Giammonas. My great grandpa was from Sicily and lived in Michigan. I understand this group in Michigan split in two. One half went to the West Coast (California), and the other half went to the East Coast (New York). Over time, the Giammona's are all over now.

He was my one of my dad's good friends, and recently I went to ground zero, and I couldn't believe my eyes. Then I went to the WTC memorial and museum and saw his picture and name on the wall. I was only six when it happened, so I don't remember much, but I've seen videos of what happened, and I was speechless.

Capt. Vincent F. Giammona was the master of FUN, the person who could always make you laugh ... even when you wanted to cry. He brought out the best in people. He was the BRAVEST person I knew. He was a SUPER HERO. He was the son of a saint (Saint Dotty). He was the son of a CAPT. (FDNY Capt. Vincent Giammona, a saint also). He was the son of the city ... NYC (his favorite place in the world)--and he was also my friend, and I miss him. Know that he lived life to it's fullest; he drank in every moment and made the most out of his life (though it was cut too short). If you knew him, you were lucky to have known him.... If you didn't know him, you missed out on quite a guy!

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site.
