Marina,
I did not know you but your name comes up next to mine in searches on the internet. We seem share so much more than our last name! I too was born in Russia. I too came here with my parents. I too am an only child. I too live in NYC. I too was in my 20s on September 11 2001. With all these things in common and having read so many wonderful things about you, I almost feel like we should have been friends.
Hearing about your too-short life and about your family has brought me to tears - just thinking of what you missed out on and what your parents must feel.
I hope you are in a better place now. Rest in peace.
Y. Gertsberg

I first saw Marina's name on 9/11 2001 missing list.
5 years later I saw her name again and read all this wonderful e-mails from all her friends and family members.
She had the same first name and heritage as me. She had a beautiful smile and I feel the pain her parents still feel to loose such a great daughter. I hope Marina will never be forgotten. She will definitely stay in my memory even though I never knew her.

Marina, I keep thinking I see you on the streets of Manhattan, and in my mind, I probably do. You were taken too early and your spirit certainly lives on. I once again felt your presence this past weekend when I went back to Binghamton for alumni weekend and entered your "house," the Ratt. You loved that place. And FYI it still looks the same. Certain songs that we danced to will forever remind me of our fun times when life was carefree and we lived in a happy bubble. I know your blue eyes are always shining, as I feel their warmth on many a day. I love and miss you. xoxo

The world lost a funny and wonderful beautiful woman on 9/11. We were college housemates and I will never forget you. I cried today thinking of you and remembering the phonecalls and emails back and forth with Gina as she searched for you. God Bless You Marina! You are forever in my prayers!

Marina, I, too, was your suitmate at Binghamton but we lost touch after college. You were a beautiful caring person who was taken away too soon. I think about you all the time as well as your parents and friends. You are in my thoughts. Rest in peace.

Marina, even 5 years after the terrible tragedy I constantly think of you and am reminded of how you have influenced my life. I look back at when we first became friends as pre-teens in camp. Although our camp days ended, our friendship did not. I remember when we used to meet on Austin Street, or how we'd meet on Kings Highway and then visit your grandmother after. I remember how we'd drive around in your car before I got mine, or how we would meet in the city and shop, go out dancing, visit the Seaport, and so much more.
You introduced me to new things including sushi (sorry, I still don't love it, but California rolls are great). You also gave me the courage to apply to grad school. On graduation day I thought of you, and of how you should have been standing there with me.
Five years ago this world was robbed of a beautiful, intelligent young woman. I hope that you are at peace and know that you will always be in the hearts of your family and friends.

Marina, you were my suitemate and friend at Binghamton U! We lost touch after college but when I found out that you were missing at the WTC, I felt so devastated. I will always remember your beautiful blue eyes, your infectious laughter and most of all what a great person you were. I think of your family and friends often.

I met Marina at Binghamton University, where we were both attending college. My first impression of her was that she was beautiful, intelligent, funny, and very mature for someone so young. As our friendship grew, I also learned that she was incredibly kind and sensitive.
On 9/11, I was panicked for most of the day as I tried desperately to locate and account for all of my friends who I knew lived and worked in the area, not knowing that Marina had just started working at Cantor Fitzgerald the week before. My relief in learning that everyone I was concerned about were all o.k. turned to dismay when I later learned, from a post on the Binghamton alumni website, that Marina had died.
Marina, I think of you often and how unfair it is that you were taken away from your parents, family, friends, and boyfriend. The earth is not as bright and sunny as it was when you walked on it. I will never forget your gorgeous blue eyes, your wit, your zest for life. I miss you.

I had the pleasure of meeting her once, and her smile would light up a room. I was greatly saddened after hearing she was at Cantor Fitzgerald shortly after the attacks. She was very intelligent and my prayers are with her and her family.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
