Our paths crossed while serving aboard the USS Pasadena, SSN 752 together. Mark was senior to me by a couple years. I owe him a great deal. He was an awesome role model and mentor who helped me greatly with my engineering, operational and tactical qualifications on the submarine. Mark lead and motivated by example; by doing and setting the pace high, inspiring others to achieve always more! I have been out of the Navy for 17 years and have not seen Mark for over 20 but will always remember him and the extremely positive impact he had on me and my life. Many thanks to Mark and warm blessings to his surviving family.

I knew Mark from Pilgrim High School. He graduated the year before me. Rest in peace.

Ten years have passed, but not a day without Mark and his family in my thoughts and prayers. Somehow life goes on without him. I know he is with us all, especially his wonderful wife and children who are so brave and going on as he would want them too.

Just opened up the Sept 2011 issue of Readers Digest. "Remember Me" written by his daughter Lauren made me cry.
I wish all the best for her and her family.

"Maybe I stood in line with you at the Millburn Theatre. Maybe you smiled at me in Taylor Park. Our daughters might know each other. We are all connected, as neighbors and friends. May the light of your memory shine bright in your family and friends forever. Rest In Peace and be safe with God."
Your Neighbor, Lenny Weiland and Family.

Mark was an amazing father. I'm currently compiling stories of his life, so if you have a story to tell, send it to me at

I'm only 18 years old from Ohio, but I am still devastated by all of it. I randomly selected this person and would like to express my grief and sympathy. I'm sure he was a true American and will be missed by his country.

Today is Mark's Birthday. He would be 45. Mark was my nephew and godson. A day doesn't pass that I don't miss him and think of him. He was my shining star. Happy Birthday in heaven, Mark.

When I visited the ground zero site, I cried as I read his name off the list of oh so many.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
