To Curt, who updated the information on Mark: Thank you so much for posting information about Mark. I'm in the process of updating my listing of names on my artwork, "Remember Me." I had very little information on some victims, and Mark was one of them.
Thanks again for posting information. People need to remember that real lives were lost and that families are still mourning their loss.

To the family and friends of Mark Y. Gilles,
I would just like to extend my thoughts and prayers to all those who were touched by knowing Mark. I never met him, but I had the honor of reading his name at this year's ceremony. I was extremely proud to do so, and I feel that this will forever connect us.
Sincerely,
John Darcy, Sq-18 F.D.N.Y.

I never knew I would never speak to you again after you called me at my new Job on 55 Waters. I never even knew that God took you home on that day. I miss hearing your voice, and you're always on my mind. God Bless you. May you rest in peace. Glad I got the chance to know you and love you.
Love,
Colette Thom

Hi, I found your site while searching my family name. I live in Alberta, Canada, and share your sadness that 9-11 has brought to us all. I do not know if by chance we may have been related. Regardless, I send my regrets for a life cut short, and wish the family love and healing.

Mark and I used to travel to and from Manhattan together every moring, back in 1990. I work near the Brooklyn Bridge, so he would drive me to my job before he got on the bridge. I will miss my play little brother I never had. We lived on the same block for many years in Brooklyn, 102 St. Rest in peace.
I will never forget you, my brother,

From The Wave Newspaper of Rockaway, NJ, where Mark lived on 9/11/2001:
Letter dated Dec 7, 2002:
"Loss That Slipped Thru Cracks
Dear Editor;
Many local heroes and victims of the 9/11 tragedy have been honored in our community.
The loss of Mark Gilles has slipped through the cracks. Mark, a resident of the Shoreview Cooperative in Far Rockaway, formerly lived in Canarsie, Brooklyn, and moved to Rockaway in November 2000.
An accountant with Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Mark was very interested in cooperative living and management. Shortly after moving to Shoreview, Mark joined the Board of Directors and volunteered his accounting skills.
In the process of making a career change, Mark was employed by Account Temps and assigned to Cantor Fitzgerald in the WTC on 9/11/01.
Mark was 33 years old. He is survived by his fiancé Sherice, their daughter Jasmine, who is now nine, and his mother Giselle, of Brooklyn.
Mark's life ended too quickly for him to really enjoy the new community he joined.
NORMAN SILVERMAN"
I found Mark also is survived by his sister, Myriam Gilles, and the family waited weeks for news of his death.

I miss you; it took a long time for me to accept that I was never going to see your face. I regret all the things left unsaid and undone between us. All this time has passed: nearly three years now. And I am vacant and lost without you. I have read the reports and sorted through all the paper work, only to realize there is no comfort in them. I long for Justus and I am striving to find my way without you.
May God Have Mercy on Us All

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner. We are maintaining this site with our own money and time. We try to keep the advertisements to a minimum and we try to make them as unobtrusive as possible. The revenue goes back to maintaining this site.
Thank you for your understanding in these matters.
