Dear Yo - I will always have happy memories of you from when we were students at Westminster Choir College, including the several times I accompanied you. May you continue to sing with the Choir Immortal!

Mary and I worked together at the Medical Society of the State of New York. She was always impeccably dressed, had a great sense of humor with a smile to match, never at a loss for words, loyal friend and always ready to lend a helping hand...right up to the end of her own life. God has a real angel at his side.

Dear Yolanda,
Just wanted you to know that I was given your name on My Mercy Band. I wear it everyday and pray for your family. Just want you to know that you were a very Heroic Woman.

I never had the honor of meeting Yo, which was what all of her classmates called her. As the alumni director at WCC, I thought it was befitting to plant a tree in front of Erdman Hall at Westminster. She spent many hours rehearsing and taking vocal lessons at Erdman. The inscription I authored reflected how she lived those precious last hours through the fiery tower. She sang to keep everyone calm. I'm glad that Sally has a place to visit in Princeton on 9/11.

Today (10/17/2010) I found a remembrance card from Yolanda, dated Nov 2001, from the mass we held in Rosedale-Queens, NY. I remember her because she was in the choir at St. Claire's church, in Rosedale, and for a time, during the 1990s, I was also singing in the choir, but also wanted to learn how to play the organ. One night after the rehearsal, I remember my step-dad gave a ride home to Yolanda (she was well known at the church), and I remember her giving me advice on singing, and also encouraging me to play the church organ. I think that she was the only person who ever gave me good advice as a choir member. I am proud to have met you, Yolanda. God be with you.

I did not know Mary Yolanda Dowling but I live near her alma mater, Westminster Choir College, in Princeton, NJ. A few years ago, I discovered a lovely tree planted in her memory on the campus. Now I place a candle there on every September 11th. Dona Nobis Pacem.

Yolanda,
I never knew you, but I saw your name on the memorial. You have the same surname as me. It’s such a cruel world. R.I.P.

I attended Westminster Choir College with Yolanda and I contributed to her Westminster fund and I used to live in Baldwin Long Island so we had many conversations about people we knew in common.. She was kind and tough at the same time. A truly honest person and one I am Honored to have known. My only regret is that I did not go to Westminster reunion that she attended before 911. I always think of her and I hope there is peace in her family.
Love Roger

Dear Mrs. Dowling,
Even after a life of helping others you have extended your kindness to me through your memory and the scholarship in your name. I cannot express enough thanks, and I know that the music is beautiful where you now are!

Yolanda,
Working out here in the missions, sometimes I get sad: I see so many lives who live 9/11 every day of their lives. Yet I remember how kind you were to me, how you would send me donations even when you were in between jobs. I will never forget you because, as a friend, I thought you would always be there. We can take friends for granted. Yet I have no doubt that you pray for me as you live the song of songs in eternity. Please pray for the poor and for the USA. I never thought, as I serve in Central America, that the US citizens would so easily forget 9/11. I believe I'm safer here than one would ever be in a country that has turned traitor on its most defenseless people, the unborn and the elderly. Yolanda, pray for us, Sis. PS Yolanda, you loved life and brought life to others. Pray for us. I'm not sure how much longer our country will survive--unless it falls to its knees fast and has a change of heart. A stony heart can change only by God's grace and love.

My name is Robert Gallo. I grew up across the street from YoYo in Rosedale in the early 70s. She would babysit my brothers and I. She was always so nice to us, and we looked forward to the times when she would come to our house. Our hearts go out to her family, and please know that you are in our prayers every day.
With much love,
Robert, Tommy, Joe, and Chris Gallo

Yolanda,
I've had special thoughts of you throughout these seven years. I think you've helped me get my job at Aon and I'm so very thankful for it and for your help! Keep looking over us; it's helps us smile.
Love,
Patricia

I got to know Yolanda from attending the Thursday Night Catholic Revival Prayer Group that would meet at the Immaculate Conception Passionist Monastery in the late 90's and early 00's. I never really got to know her or talk to her much, but we certainly prayed up a storm together while at the prayer group. I am inspired by her holy example and trust that she is interceding before the throne for all of us. I bless her memory and her family.
Keep sending down God's graces, Yolanda!
In Christ,
Neven

I knew Mary in high school, and I often look through our yearbook at her picture and the special note she wrote beneath her portrait in my yearbook. She was so warm and funny, and we laughed a lot in Spanish class. I loved her beautiful voice. She was very talented, but so modest. I was unaware of this site until today. I did so want you all who read this to know that she was a very special person. May she rest in peace. May her beloved family be comforted in knowing that, even now, she is remembered.

I went to high school with Mary Yolanda. We often talked about music, and I can remember her solo parts at our school concerts. She was always a very wholesome and kind person.
To her family and friends: Know that she is ever close to you. I pray that God may give you peace until we all are able to meet again.

I remember Yolanda from our singing together with Goliard Chorale and Concerts. She was a talented, loving, warm, and sweet woman whom I enjoyed singing next to. Yolanda is the only friend I lost on 9/11, and I heard of heroic stories of her holding the door open for others. Despite her fear, I can easily picture her putting others first. I'm not surprised. I never heard her speak an unkind word. I am bitter about her death and the loss of her life, as well as everyone else who was lost that day and for the families left behind.
Tonight, as a musician, I will play for another 9/11 memorial mass at my church. Again this year, I will remember Yolanda, and she will be with me in spirit and in prayers. I will celebrate her life and her goodness.

I went to college with Rosaleen and just stumbled across this today. I dont know if you remember me but I have thought of you often and now I will pray for you and your family on the loss of your sister. I hope you can find some comfort in the thought that people are praying for you and yours all over the country.
God Bless,
Maria

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
