Dear Melissa,

I think you were a strong and lovely person, and I'm sad when I think on this terrible situation! You're always on my mind. Rest in peace.

Dear family,

I don't know what to say. Words are not enough. I pray she was able to reach her mother, as they say she was, from the 44th floor as she was escorted down by a fireman. I know she loved you very much. I know you love her, and that will never end. Please, please, try to go on, as I think that is what she would have wanted. Everyone needs to hug their loved ones and make sure they know that every time they leave the house. Be brave!

To Melissa's family and friends: I had never heard the whole tape of Melissa's 911 call until recently. I would like to say to her family and friends how very sorry I am for your loss. Melissa was, I'm sure, a wonderful, sweet girl, and she surely, along with all of the other victims, did not deserve to die that day. Let me just say that I will always remember her and Kevin Cosgrove and all of the other victims and their families. I pray for you all every day. God bless you all, and GOD BLESS AMERICA!

To the family of Melissa:

What a beautiful, sweet, courageous young woman, facing the worst with realism and grace. You should always be so very,
very proud of her! She will always be an inspiration to other Americans.

This was a cherished and beautiful soul. My deepest regrets to her family and friends. You must miss her terribly.

I just heard the desperate 911 call from Melissa Doi. I pray that the end came quick and painless for her and the others trapped with her. She will never be forgotten.

I didn't know Melissa personally, but after hearing her 911 call, I understand what type of person she was. She was beautiful, brave, caring, and had a tremondous spirit. I feel for her family and pray they are doing well even after this tragedy. Melissa was a wonderful person who didn't deserve to have her life cut short.

Hi, My name is Ralston. I heard your cry for help. You are a beautiful woman to lose a life over. If I have what it takes to save a life that day, I would save you and others who are in need. I would like to say sorry to you and your family. Yes, I heard you and hated to hear you die while watching your picture.

*** Posted by Ralston Shanklin on 2007-03-24 ***

Your call on that tape just broke our hearts. Brought tears to us immediately, and we don't even know you. Saw your beautiful picture. Wish we had known you!

It's been a long time since our high school and college days! We were "cherubs" together at Northestern University in the summer of 1986. I still remember all those late night walks and talks along Lake Michigan and watching July 4th fireworks in downtown Chicago. You really knew how to brighten my days. Do you remember all those crazy dance parties down in Sargent Hall?  You went to NU for college and I went on to Washingon University in St. Louis. I still can't believe you're gone, and to hear your voice on those audio tapes during the 9/11 crisis. My heart goes out to you and your family. I wish we'd kept in better touch after college.

Dearest Melissa,

I found your recording years ago and I still bring myself to listen to your last words, as I would speak. I listen to you as to remind me that life, as we know it, is short and should not be taken for granted. That you loved your mother and didn't expect to be taken from this earth so young in your life. May God bless your family that mourns for you ...

Your life affected mine. Thank you. I sit in tears and fear. I will live the best I can, and I thank you for your strength which you have unknowingly shared with me. God bless.

Dear Melissa,

Hearing your last words brought tears to my eyes. I don't have any words to describe what I feel right now, but I know that I am still full of tears.

My prayers will always be with your family.

I may never know you, but when I heard your call when that tragic event happened, it really broke my heart. May you, and all the victims of that terrible act of terrorism, rest in peace. My prayers be with your family.

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
