I just watched the news on TV, and I heard a voice clip of her 911 call, and ... and ... I don't have any words to describe what I feel right now, but I still have tears right now. Rest in peace, dear Melissa Doi.

Her voice breaks my heart. I will never forget.

I just heard the excerpts on TV and had to look her up. I hate that this happened to her, to all of those people. When you listen to those tapes, you just want to reach out and save her. She is right there, and yet it's too late. It is so sad. She looked like she was a wonderful, beautiful person. I wish I could have known her and been her friend.

While I heard the tape of Melissa, my heart was breaking. I can't imagine what she was going through, knowing that she was going to die. It was more amazing to me that she remained under control, even when she finally realized she would die. What a strong, wonderful person. I am so sorry she and others had to go so tragically. May God bless her family, especially in having to hear her pain and fear. May her strength be with you.

I heard the recording of her 911 call tonight for the first time. I felt so horrible, hearing the despair in her voice. I had to see what she looked like ... so beautiful and sweet. I am 33, just one year older. It makes me want to live life to its fullest even more passionately. I will never forget her voice.

I just heard Melissa's tape. It is beyond devastating, and I am in tears right now. I never knew her, but her bravery was amazing. I live here in Manhattan, and almost five years later there are days when the horror is still so fresh. Melissa, none of us will ever forget you.

May God be with her family. Hearing her pleas for help is so sad. Please know that we all remember these young people and the tragedy they endured. May God bring peace to Melissa's family during this difficult time and always. She was a beautiful young woman who deserved better than what she got.

I listened to your voice on the 911 tape this morning. I watched the towers come down from Queens, knowing people were dying at that instant, but hearing your voice makes it personal now, not just a name or a photo, but a person. You died from an act of evil; your loss is immeasurable.

My prayers will always be with your family. No one will ever know what your last few minutes, or seconds, were truly like. R.I.P.

I'm so heartsick for what happened to this beautiful woman.

I will always remember; I shall never forget!

As long as I live, I will never forget.

What can you do in a situation like that? It must have been a comfort that she was able to get hold of an operator and have someone to talk to. After the communication stopped, that woman must have been terrified. Such young, bright minds, gone forever. The world has changed since 9/11.

I will never forget you. What a brave woman! My prayers for all those who remain.

You did not deserve this horrible fate. May you rest in peace, and may your family and loved ones find much strength in their wonderful memories of you.

I listened to your 911 tape today, and I cried like it just happened. The wounds are so fresh. We will NEVER forget....

Melissa was a brave woman! The way she handled it with that operator was amazing! I couldn’t have been that brave myself! The thought that any one would hurt all these people in the World Trade Center is not understandable. That any one would want to spread so much tragedy into people’s lives! God bless you all!

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy.
