I have had the heart-rending experience of listening to Melissa on the 9-1-1 tapes, in which the FDNY/EMS call receiving operator remained on line with her through her untimely and unnecessary death. Although I never got to know her in the personal sense, I hope to meet her in heaven when my time comes. I can only hope to have the strength and faith that she demonstrated in her last hour. She will always remain a symbol of strength and humbleness for all humanity.

I just heard the 911 tape from Ms. Doi.  My heart and prayers go out to her family. May God bless all the victims' families.

Melissa,

You are in our hearts forever.

The fear in your voice was very real. May you be at peace as you live powerfully in our hearts.

Rest in peace.

I saw and heard you on the news last night, almost 4 1/2 years later. You sounded like a warm and compassionate person.

My interest in hearing you was tenfold as I am Asian and graduated from Northwestern U over forty years ago.

I do not know Melissa Doi. Yesterday while watching the evening news, I heard a clip of her 911 call to the dispatcher. It was disturbing to hear the fear in her voice in the last few minutes she had on the phone. I just want her loved ones to know that she will never be forgotten. I am very sorry for your loss.

I hope she is at peace.

I did not know Melissa but I just listened to her heart-rending plea for help on that fateful day. My heart aches, and the tears flow. What loss! God help us all.

Hearing her audio tape was the toughest thing I've heard coming out of the tragedy. Never forget what happened.

I remember.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
