I will forever remember this Melissa -- even though I never met her -- she will live in my memory as one of the beautiful human beings taken too soon from this earth. I hope her husband has found peace and love again, 10 years later. God bless her family.

Never Forget...RIP

On 9/11/2001 I was glued to the TV, just as many others were. Of all the phone call messages aired on TV that horrible week, the one that stuck out in my mind was the one from Melissa Hughes to her husband Sean. I always wondered if she was ever able to make it out of the tower. It saddens me that she did not make it out, and I pray for your family.

Melissa, I did not know you but to me, you are the face of September 11, 2001. Your story touched my life and I will remember you for as long as I live. My thoughts and prayers are with your family today.

It is the 10th Anniversary of the attacks of 9/11 and it feels like yesterday. Melissa was a dear friend of mine. I hear her voice in my head often. I looked up to her. She inspired me to volunteer and I continue my membership with the Jr. League in honor of her. I live in NY now and work across the street from where she died. I am reminded every day of this tragedy. To Sean...you know I love you and I think of you often. I am so happy you have been able to begin a new life and have a beautiful family. Many blessings! Jenn

Remembering you on this tenth anniversary....and recalling the love you conveyed in your message to your husband.

I just found out your name and found your website. I was so emotionally effected by your call on 911 I have never forgotten you.

I thought about what you were facing up in the tower on that day and wished I could be there doing something to help you.

Your phone call exposed the world to what a beautiful person you were and the love you had for your husband. I know you are in a good place and your family and friends will join you when it is their time.

I will be toasting you tomorrow Mel, as I have done every 9/11 since that day and will do every 9/11 until the day I die.

Melissa sat a few seats behind me at Fausey elementary school in West Springfield, MA (6th grade I beleive, perhaps in 5th grade too). It is difficult to comprehend that she has been gone for 10 years. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

Like so many others who have commented on here, Melissa is still the face I see when 9/11 is mentioned. Young, vibrant, beautiful, with so much to give, and so much love for her husband and family. Such an opposite of those who were so filled with hate that they could destroy the lives of so many. Thank you, Melissa for giving voice to love on a day filled with darkness.

Dear Melissa, I think of you often but more than ever around the anniversary date of this terrible day. I remember how excited you were when you got engaged to Sean and how much you enjoyed planning your wedding. I enjoyed getting to know you more closely and what a down to earth person you were with a great sense of humor. I also remember how much you loved your family and how important they were to you. Your parents did a great job helping form you in to the wonderful person you became and how you loved your brother and how special he was to you. Every time you spoke of Sean the love and happiness you felt shown through. You did so much in your short life and had so much to offer the world in the years ahead. Then, this terrible event cut that short and took it all away. I am so sorry for that and what those who loved you must have suffered such sorrow afterwards. I often sit on the special bench installed in your honor and call it the Melissa bench! It is a peaceful place to sit and relax or reflect with wonderful flowers grown surrounding it. You are missed and I will keep you in my prayers always.

Dear Melissa,
When I remember, as I often do, the terrible events of September 11, 2001, your story still is in my heart. A beautiful young woman, recently a bride; a life of concern for others and filled with such promise. A husband and family left to mourn for what never was. I hope your family is at peace, and that the man you loved with your last breath finds happiness again. And for you....the knowledge that the world is sad at your passing and will do our best to make each day count and that we remember and will keep you in our hearts. God Bless You -

  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
