Ten years later I still remember hearing your name on the news stories about 9/11 victims. I never knew you but think of you often and try to live my life to its fullest as I know you would have. God bless you and your family 1

When I think of 911 I always remember your message to your husband. I had nightmares for weeks thinking of what you went through, though I knew you went with many others, your voice stood out. You and all other individuals that lost their lives will always be remembered.

When I remember September 11 it is your story I think of. You are the face of 9-11.

I heard your phone message. I broke down and cried that day. I think of you and say a little prayer that you and your husband and family will be together in time.

To the Harrington and Hughes Families,

Though I never knew Melissa, I worked with her brother Michael for almost four years shortly after the events of 9-11. And ironically, several years later I met Ann Koenig who was a co-worker at Textron, and she too knew Melissa from when she was a little girl. I often thought of Melissa as I passed through West Springfield, and on more than one occasion said a short prayer. May she rest in peace.

I was working at the Monte Carlo the night after 9/11. Melissa's family were regular customers there. I will never forget the tears in his eyes when he spoke about the phone calls his daughter had made to him. I hope tonight brings a tiny piece of justice for what happened nearly 10 years ago. My thoughts always go back to Melissa and her family during times like this. God bless America.

I am very sorry for your loss, and I am researching those who lost their lives in the devastating attack. Melissa's story struck me personally, and I am inspired to include her in my story on 9/11. I can tell she was such a wonderful person, and I think of your sacrifice often.

I wrote here a while back, and of course I never knew Melissa, but I really feel an affinity with her, and I have a photo of Melissa in my porch at home. The phone call home speaks to me in many ways because I have a lifelong disability, something I can't escape. I am pleased that Melissa had a rich life. The phone call is both hugely brave and tragic but oddly for me also very beautiful.

Melissa Harrington Hughes will always be remembered for all the right reasons — she is an eternal star.

Love always,

I never met you, but you're in my thoughts after watching videos about you. I am touched by your story. May you rest in peace and find happiness wherever you are, Melissa.

I wanted to tell Sean that, since that day I saw him on TV, my thoughts and the thoughts of my wife, Melissa, and two children, Sean Jr. and Christopher, have been with him and his family. Please feel free to contact me on my Facebook page any time.

To Melissa's family and friends

From various television documentaries I listened to the huge number of telephone calls made from the Tower buildings.

Melissa's ansaphone call to her husband Sean ripped me apart back when I first heard it. Since that time it is the one call I still often 'hear' in my head.

Even now it rips me to pieces whenever I 'hear' it.

I never knew and have no connection at all with your family or friends.... but it's the one phone call that won't ever go away from head.

On this, the 9th year after the most horrifying day in our history, I remember once again the personal pain of finding that my young cousin's beautiful and beloved wife had perished at the hands of these madmen. I know she is at peace and Sean is healing. My thoughts and prayers to all who knew and loved her.

Hey Melissa.
I may not know you, and I am from Singapore.
I saw everything on Singapore's national TV.
You're such a wonderful lady.

It was heart-wrenching to have heard your phone call to your husband. You'd been a great lady for the 31 years you were alive.

To Melissa's family, brace up and take care.

With love, JeeCin (singapore)

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
