I remember Michael from his days at Campion College in Jamaica. He was a brilliant mind; gifted athletically as well as intellectually. Humble, and always eager to learn and help. The world was richer for his presence and it is reallyy a tragedy that he had so few years here on earth. God bless you Mike. RIP.

My name is Vinnett Coley, and I knew Michael A Parkes from the time he was a baby. When I heard that he was one of the victims of 9-11 that was taken away from us too, too soon, I was suddenly filled with grief. MICHAEL, YOU'RE TRULY MISSED; YOU'RE GONE, BUT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. Condolences to his family. Michael will always be in our hearts.

I'm the sister of one of Michaels friends Derrel....my memory of Michael was when I took a road trip with my brother and his New York University buddies. I remember feeling so happy to know my brother has such a great group of friends who are wonderful examples of strong, intelligent, compasionate and very funny men. There was a moment on the trip when my brother had not come back to the hotel and I was ever so worried, and I remember being comforted by his friends and reassured that Derrel would be just fine. My prayers go out to Michaels family and closest friends. and I'm happy to have shared momentarily in his wonderful spirit, and I still remember fondly.

God Bless Alway!

A local artist did an installment memorializing the victims of the WTC. He asked individuals to each make a piece comemorating one of the people we had lost. I got Michael's name and read all of the tributes to him, realizing what a great loss his death must have been to the many he touched. God bless you, Michael.

I met Michael when he was 16 years old at Tilden High School in Brooklyn, NY. He became one of my closest and dearest friends for the next 11 years. He had a unique sense of humor and a way about him that put everyone at ease. He made every one feel special all the time. He had an extremely brilliant mind but was never arrogant with it. After 5 years since his passing, I still hurt deeply and miss him greatly. I have a necklace that he gave to me when he returned from one of his trips to Jamaica. It is one of my most treasured possessions. It is a beautiful wooden necklace with a Gyname symbol as a pendant. It symbolizes the omnipotence and supreme nature of God and that there is nothing to fear but the fear of God. Each time I look at it I feel hope that Michael is at peace with the God he loved so much. As I prepare to give birth to my first child, I cant help but to think of the friend who is not here to meet her. She will know of him though because I will always keep his memory alive.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
