Today I participated in a 110 story climb in my hometown to honor the fallen firefighters of 9/11/01. I proudly wore a badge remembering Michael Boyle on my climb. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fellow firefighters as we honor those fallen 343 on this 10th anniversary.

Michael Boyle – Engine 33, NYFD

Forget about the politics
Forget about who’s boss.
Today we remember the victims
The grieving and the loss.

I read of one name, a firefighter
Michael Boyle, just thirty seven.
Resident of Westbury, New York
Sadly, now in heaven.

A man with a loving family
A man with a happy life
Called in, to duty
Called in, to strife.

This man is hero
He laid it on the line
To save a life unknown
His passion, sublime.

Rest in peace Michael
Ten years ago, today
The memory of your love and courage
Is in our hearts, every day.

I was friends with Mike when he and his family lived in Stony Brook, NY. Mike and I played sports and had paper routes toghther. A time in my life I look back on very fondly. Mike was a big part of that time. I was shocked to hear of his death on 9/11, but not surprised he stepped up to help the way he did. I am proud to have called you my friend. Bless the Boyle family.

We had to say something at this 10th anniversary of 9/11. We were neighbors of the Boyle family and remember Michael very well. We, as many in the community, were extremely saddened when we heard of this tragedy. We saw Michael grow up in 18 years that we lived in Westbury. We currently live in North Carolina but had to convey our sympathy to the loving Boyle Family. Louis Cicardo and Vincent Montilli, Formerly of Oxford St. in Westbury NY

I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling. Our proudest moment is to save lives. ~Edward F. Croker

I did not know Michael but I became a very good friend of his father. My prayers will always be with the Boyle family. May god bless everybody.

I never knew Michael, but I know his sister Mary and family: Amanda, Diana, and Brendan, and parents and sister and her family, as they have moved to the Rochester, NY area. They are all very special people, and I know Michael was beloved. On this day my thoughts are once again with Michael's loved ones, and with all who have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice in the service of others.

Michael Boyle was my uncle. At the time I was four, and I was living in Georgia. We were extremely close; he was my best friend. There is not a day that I don't think about him. I love and miss him immensely. LOVE YOU, UNCLE MIKE!  (:

I knew Mike as a kid growing up on Long Island.... We always spent an entire day hanging out with his brother Jimmy and my brothers Marty, Johnny, and Robert ... playing softball and getting into mischief during the company picnic.... The Engine 217 company picnic, that is. I went away at 17 to the Air Force Academy and basically lost contact with everyone back home during my career in the Air Force. 9/11 brought us all back to our roots and the realities.

The Boyle family is, in my opinion, the first family of the FDNY.

I said "good morning" and "good night" to the picture of Michael on a quilt hanging in the entry way to the Pentagon every day that I was stationed there.

Michael was a great person and a committed firefighter.... His memory and accomplishments will live on forever through his mom, dad, brother, sisters, fiance, and friends!

Mike was one of the really great guys lost on 9/11. The men of E226 will never forget him. God bless you, Mike.

As a dear friend of Michael's father, Jimmy, it is with sincere honor and pride that I voice my appreciation to all the brothers who die in the line of duty, especially those killed on 9/11. We will never forget you, brother. My prayers go out to all. God bless the firemen staffin' heaven's firehouses!

I am a state trooper who witnessed the 9-11 attack. It really hit home when I saw this name. I am so sorry for your loss. I know there is nothing I can say to stop your pain, but I will never forget. I wish I could have met him. My thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless Michael and his family. I'm sure he was called home to God and is still watching over you. I am so sorry.

Gone, but not forgotten!

I lived with Mike during his sophomore year at SUNY Cortland. I was a senior at the time and remember spending a great deal of time looking after my "little brother." Mike was a character, full of life and energy. He displayed a passion for running that few could match. I think about Mike a lot since learning of his passing. I have great memories of the time we spent together, and my heart goes out to his family and loved ones. As time progressed, I did not keep in touch with Mike, though I know that my life was enriched by knowing him. I still have the Westbury Beverage key chain with his phone number on it. God bless you, "Little Bro."

Another year has gone by. I did good on the fdny test, so it is only a matter of time now. I am leaving soon to go down to E-33. God bless.

I can't believe Mikey's gone. I ran cross country and track with him for three years at Murphy Junior High School in Stony Brook, NY. I was undefeated for two years in a row because of him. We were best friends. He was like a brother to me. He always pushed me to be #1. He shaped many of my life's values I still carry with me to this day. We trained at an upstate running camp where we logged 118 miles in a week together. I was just searching the internet and thinking about Mike. I had no idea until today 12/18/07 that he died, running into the tower, I'm sure, with that graceful stride of his. God bless you, Mike. We always laughed when we trained. Please, someone, e-mail me with more information about his life after we parted ways. My heart is broken. I love ya, Mikey. No one could beat us. I am proud to have called you my best friend and my brother.--Johnny, you'll always be running stride for stride with me, telling me to "go get 'em John! Take the race!" I'm so sorry for everyone who knew and loved him.

  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
