I acquired an American Flag honoring Michael from the Healing Field of Central Iowa last fall commemorating the 5th anniversary of 9/11. I am honored to display this flag dedicated to Michael D. D'Auria, a true American hero.

Mike and I went to school in Ft. Lauderdale for a while. He was in my math class (Mrs. Brady). We had hooked up for a bit. I was looking up some old friends on myspace and I decided to google Mike and had the shock of my life! To know that I had let so much time pass without looking him up. He was always making me laugh, he will be missed!

Thinking about you, Mike! Much love,

God bless everyone. I think of Michael everyday, because I am still wearing his name on my bracelet since 9/11. I think of all who were killed and hurt every day. Love to all and especially Michaelís family.

I want to thank Michael's mom for welcoming me with a warm heart when I rang her door bell to let her know that the picture on the pole of Michael was missing. She gave me a picture of him that I hold in my wallet everyday since then. The picture is back on the corner of Elverton and Barlow, now when I pass I have my three year old son blow a kiss to him and let him know he was a HERO and he blows a kiss and says "I love you Michael" He will be in my heart forever and my son will always know how important he was to our country, his family and all the people who loved him.

Love, Kim

I have known Michael for many years, he lived on Eleverton and I lived on Steig Avenue.  He was a funny, very understanding and a true and wonderful person and friend.  We have hung out together many of times over the last 25 years that I lived on Staten Island.  I pass the poll on the corner of Eleverton as much as possible just to blow a kiss and hope and pray his family knows he was a true to the heart HERO!  He was a wonderful person and I will never forget his love for his family and the hero he always was and always will be!

I do not know Michael D'Auria nor have ever met him before 9/11.  One of the blocks I did for the United In Memory (UIM) 9-11 Victims Memorial Quilt was dedicated to the honor and memory of Michael.  It is really very tragic to lose someone like him who was at the prime of his life, doing the things he did best - being a firefighter and being a chef.  I hope that through the United In Memory 9-11 Victims Memorial Quilt, his memory will live on forever.  When we had the UIM Quilt displayed at Pier 94 in New York City on Sept. 11 -14, 2003, I had the privilege of meeting Michael's mother, Nancy Marra, and his grandparents. It was a very emotional moment for me having finally made a connection with a 9/11 victim - Michael, to whom I dedicated the block I contributed to the Quilt Project and having met his mother and grandparents.  This is one moment in time which will forever linger in my mind.  Having met a family of a 9/11 victim, especially the family of a victim for whom I dedicated a block, is an experience that has surely enriched my life and has given me a whole new perspective in life.  God bless Michael...God bless his mother and grandparents...and God bless all those who perished in the 9/11/2001 tragedy and their families.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
