A few years after 9/11, I was taking the walking tour of Ground Zero. The docents were involved with the tragedy in some way. We had two guides, a very charismatic Fire Fighter and an older lady, who appeared to be learning the tour. He son was the firefighter Michael Mullan of the FDNY, although we only knew him as Michael.
At the end of the tour, the lady (Mrs. Mullan) handed me a memory card of her son it read Michael Mullan - it felt like I was punched in the stomach.....the name was so close to mine!
I hugged her and told her my name and that I was a police officer in California.
I did not know any of the brave souls from the tragedy, but I felt a strong connection to Mrs. Mullan.
We are nearing the 10 year anniversary and it seems so long ago, but at the same time feels like yesterday.
God Bless those heroes killed, God bless the survivors!

Even though I didn't know you, I saw the street that bears your name. I am writing as a proud New Yorker. I officiate soccer: we have a moment of silence every year! God bless you, your family, and your brothers and sisters in the F.D.N.Y.

“SIR! YES SIR!” It's amazing how life continues, but pain and sorrow is still right there inside one ... but it's “ALL GOOD, CAPTAIN!” Very much proud to have “bunked” with you @ the 344th CSH when we'd do our annual 2-week training. Especially when we'd go to Fort Polk or Fort Dix and set-up our field hospital, and there you were with your “John Wayne” unstrapped kevlar! ... Those moments look’n at y’all were and still are priceless! Still right here in my heart, alive, Captain; miss you much! “CARRY-ON SOLDIER! CARRY-ON!”

It's August 7 2006, and I found myself unexpectedly thinking of Mike today. My memory, as if frozen in time, is Mike as that little freckled face boy so full of life from the big Irish family who lived accross from me on Jordan St. in Bayside Queens. As I reflect on Mike's death, strangely enough the thought strengthens and bolsters my faith in God. For me, Sept. 11th 2001 doesn't represent politics or a position on war, but the bigger struggle between good and evil in this world. Mike was a special player on the good team who was called home by his heavenly Father. My hope is one day I'll see Mike's face smiling in the sunshine of heaven - God Bless Mike Mullan.

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
