Dearest Michael,

I cannot believe that it will soon be 6 years since I last kissed and hugged you. My heart has been ripped to pieces. I miss you more and more with each day that passes. You are and always will be the BEST SON any mother could ever have. Our family will NEVER be whole until we are all together again. You are ALWAYS in my heart and on my mind. The pain of losing you will NEVER go away. The rest of the world has moved on, but for your family who all love you soooo very much, that will never happen. I read the rest of the letters people wrote, and it is easy to see how many lives you touch. No surprise to me you are the BEST! I wasn't surprised to see that Tracy wrote you; she is one of the people that I know will always love and remember you. I thank her for that. It was so nice to see the letter from Frank Totten, whom we never even met. To think that he takes the time to stop and say a prayer at the cemetery for you just blows my mind. I thank him from the bottom of my heart. Well, my boy, I hope to see you in my dreams. Remember to watch over your family because we all need that. Also watch over Tommy, Bubba, and Janeen, and make sure to show them around till their families join them. I LOVE YOU MORE THAN WORDS COULD EVER SAY.

The thought of you being gone tears at me as much today as it did on 9/11. I will never stop sharing our family stories with my children and with people I meet. The mention of your name brings me back to happier times and all we've lost. You were such a kind person; it was a great day when we would get together and you would be there. If Matt knew he was seeing you he would get so excited to be seeing the fireman. We sat the other night with another couple and talked about the day, the loss, the injustice of it all. You were too good for this world. Your mom is right. All I know is I woke up on 9/11 and my world (and your family, first and foremost) has never been the same. Your photos sit on my shelf and always will. Your smile and memory live in my heart, and I could never possibly forget you. And, as long as I'm alive, I will never let anyone forget you, either. I love you and miss you always!

To the Kiefer Family:

My thoughts and prayers go out to you. Michael's grave is by my mother's grave. I found your son's grave while going to hers. I paused and thought of your son, that he gave the ultimate sacrifice to save others. I am a volunter firefighter, an ex-captain in the Riverhead Fire Department for 25 years. I know the calling that Michael had in his heart. My brother worked on the 91st floor of the second tower. He got out; 7 members of his company didn't. He will never be the same. I make a point that every time I go to my mother's grave, I go to your son's grave and say a little prayer. Although I never knew your son, he is in my thoughts. God Bless you all.

Mrs. Kiefer, not sure if you remember me, but you and I connected in regards to an article that fell into my hands. It was a Cub Scout news article titled, "Explorer's Mourn one of it's Own". It was about your son; I read this article after reading John Edward's book which made Michael seem so alive to me. I was amazed that I had read that news article just after reading the book. The timing was incredible. Just like the person writing about the $20 bill that had fallen into his hands. I think your son puts these little signs out there for you to know he is still very much around you. You sent me 3 copies of a book that you and your family compiled about Mike's life. I look at it often, have kept it hidden away, it is precious to me, I will never forget him, someone who I had never met made such an impression on me. He IS still with you. I am sending my prayers to you and your family at this time. I know you have a void in your heart that can never be filled.

God bless you and your family. The country is holding you in their arms in the days to come. We will never forget his bravery that day and the lives he saved.

I work at TDBanknorth, Harwichport, Cape Cod! taking in transactions and I found this $20 bill and it said, "FDNY FF Michael Kiefer Remember 9-11-01." It touched me, so I looked up his name and I found this site! I wrote this website on the bill. I hope if anyone finds this it I hope it touches you like it has me. I will not forget Michael Kiefer because of this site and bill!

Thanks for all you did, Michael. I will pray for you and your strong family! Thank you!

Yes, I knew this person. I am the proud mother of FDNY FF Michael Kiefer of Ladder 132 in Brooklyn. He was the most wonderful son a mother could ask for. From the day he was born he brought nothing but joy to his daddy and I. He had a heart of gold and a smile that would light up any room he entered. He had a great love for God and his family. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his family. He was the best big brother to his 2 younger sisters. He always told them that our family must always stick together. His greatest love after God and his family was FDNY. He worked his entire life to become one of NY's Bravest. He achived his goal and gave his life on 9-11-01 when he was MURDERED while trying to save others. We miss him more and more each day. Our family has been ripped apart and we will NEVER recover from losing the core of our family. May the world NEVER forget 9-11-01. As for my beautiful Michael all I can say is that," THIS WORLD WAS NEVER MEANT FOR ONE AS BEAUTIFUL AS YOU!"  I will love you always and carry you in my heart until the day I die and we are together again.  Your Mommy xxxxxxoooooo

I had attended high school with Mike and it has been 10 years since we walked the same hallways. One of my fondest memories was how sweet, funny and kind he had been to so many. He always had a smile on his face and a way of making everyone laugh. He will be missed greatly by many. My prayers have been extended to his family since that day.

Thinking about Sept 11th is an erie feeling...I did not know this Michael Kiefer, but I know another Michael Kiefer, who is my own father. On Sept. 11th, I was living near the Pentagon, which struck things close enough to home in my own family, but then when we saw the victim list out of New York...I remember.
