To The Bocchino family,
I would like to offer my sincere condolences on the loss of your son Michael. I knew him personally, we went steady for 5 years, from 1975-1980. Mutual friends from Bklyn College arranged for Michael & I to meet on a blind date. We had a lot of fun together. Every birthday of mine he took me to Great Adventure Amusement park. Because I didn't go on the scariest rides, we often brought his cousin Mitch along. This way Michael wouldn't have to go on those rough rides that he loved alone. We  had great times back then. Michael worked at Happy Legs in the garment district. I worked on 34th street at B. Altman's, just a few blocks away from him. One day I got sick at work, I commuted by bus from Ft. Lee N. J. to Manhattan. Michael insisted on leaving work and driving me all the way home. He always made me feel special, he bought me gorgeous outfits from Happy legs & alot of jewlery. I was there with his parents when he graduated from the firefighters Academy. We took pictures of a lot of our dates together, which I still have in an album somewhere. I will never forget his sister Debra's wedding, we had a great time that day, so many years ago. So many times through the years I wanted to look Michael up, even if it was just to chat. I didn't want to bother him though, I pictured him married with kids. My brother Ricky saw Michael about 19years ago. Michael was on a date with a girl. they were about to go on the Cyclone in Coney Island, my brother was the ride operator. Michael asked about me. By then I was a married woman with a 2 year old son. I went on to have 2 more kids later on. Michael would be surprised to know that with his encouragement I graduated from kingsborough Community College in 81 and became a Nurse. When Michael met me I was a high school drop-out, I had family problems when he met me at 17 (I am 3 years younger). He helped me study for my GED & he was very much into me finding a good career. Unfortunitely, we broke up, before I graduated, so he never knew. Some awful things happened in my life & that would doom our relationship forever. It was such a sad time. I pray for michael's soul to rest in peace always. I will always have a special place in my heart for him. He was my first love, it's so sad he had to die such an awful death. I know he died doing what he loved to do being a fireman, helping people, he was a true hero in every sense of the word on 911. I met him when he was studying to be a C. P. A. at bklyn college. He would probably still be with us if he would have chosen that career. I know that is a weird thought, because I know a desk job would have made Michael miserable. I think he died feeling fulfilled having followed his dream in life. God Bless you always Michael. May your family somehow find peace in knowing you are now with the Lord.

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!

9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
