Mr and Mrs Ragusa,
My name is Lorin, and I am South African. Like many across the world, I was shocked and saddened by the events of that day. Michael was a brave and courageous man, who gave his life unselfishly to save others. May the light and beauty of his soul shine on and through everything, to remind us of his courage and bravery. Rest in peace, Michael.

To the mother of Michael Ragusa:
Your gift of a photo of your son to the crew of the Aleutian Ballad tour in Ketchikan, Alaska now touches every person who takes that tour as his name is mentioned. Every time we remember our trip, we will think of your son, the sacrifice he made, and a mother's love. We will never forget.

I am doing a project on him. He seems like a really good person, and he was too young to die. I am so sorry for the family and send my best wishes to his kids and his mom, dad, and wife.

My older son conducted a Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive for his Eagle Scout Project in November 2004. He had read the story about Michael Rugasa and realized that firefighters were an exceptionally altruistic group of people. Michael Ragusa gave his life trying to help others on 9/11 as well as earlier promising to save a life if called upon by the NMDP. Now my younger son is organizing a Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive for his Eagle Scout Project. He will be registering all the Fire and Police Department personnel in our city. Joining the NMDP can be done with a swab of cheek cells, so it is possible for him to go the fire houses and sign up the donors. We have often told the story of Michael Ragusa

I went to elementary school with Michael at P.S. 312 and I.S. 78. We always had good times playing around those days. He was always a nice guy and genuine even at the early years when I knew him. When I heard his name as the last fireman buried for the 9/11 tragedy, that shocked us all. I knew right away who it was, as I grew up with him in Bergen Beach. My heartfelt prayers still go out to him and his family, and even though better late than never, this message I hope he gets to know that even though we rarely spoke soon after junior high school that I never forgot how much of a great guy he was and will always be. I always get to see the firetruck dedicated for him on Foster Ave in Brooklyn often as I work nearby, and it always makes me remember him every time I go by the firehouse. May you always rest in peace, Michael. You were an awesome friend!

Post your memorial thoughts:
Share your feelings and memories of grief and
sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories. If you knew this
person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with
us something about his/her life:
- what kind of person he/she was,
- what nice points you remember about him/her,
- what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
- what you two perhaps did together,
- what he/she meant to you,
- or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging
for other people.
This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.
Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
9-11Heroes.us is a personal effort, not a business, nor is the site dedicated to any specific person or persons. We will not post negative comments. Moreover, 9-11Heroes.us reserves the right to choose which comments to post and also to edit the comments for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or edit comments that are unkind or offensive in some manner.
