God Bless you and your family. How sad that your heroism was overlooked because of religious prejudice in America.

You are an angel and always will be...

RIP with God Always...

Rest in peace, dear brother. Every day I check your photo on Wikipedia, and I feel like crying, but I'm also proud of you. May God bless you in the Jannah and also comfort your family.

Ramadan Mubarak to the Hamdani Family! I recite Sura Al Kauthar every day and pray for your loss.

This Eid I will ask my Imam to make dua for Brother Salam, the Hamdani family, and for all families who lost loved ones.

For Mrs Hamdani

it's been 8 years today
that you finally got it your way
you left us here, without a farewell
leaving behind just your smell

Everyone tells me to respect your decision
and understand that you fulfilled your mission
but they don't understand my pain
they don't know how it feels to be stuck under the rain

I wish I could hold you
and tell you that I love you
I wish I could understand
I wish I was there to hold your hand
maybe I could have changed your mind

Salman, rest in peace
I hope you will always live longer
I will be waiting for you in my dreams
to re-live all those beautiful memories.

I went to Queens College with Mohammed. We sat together with all of our friends in the student union every day for lunch and ate pizza or subway, joked around, and played cards or headed over to the game room to play pool. I was fortunate enough to finally be in the same class as him. It was Statistics, and I could not understand it for anything! But Mohammed was so patient with me and insisted on tutoring me to help me pass. He forced me to speak to the professor and accompanied me to his office when I was having a really hard time. I will forever appreciate his warmth, unselfishness, and friendship. After we all graduated, we all began to part ways. Up to a month before 9/11, we still chatted over AOL IM through his screen name, "Salmangide." And he still was the same warm Mohammed as always. So when I learned of his passing, I broke the news to our group of Queens College friends at a gathering. We all hugged and cried and looked up to the sky and said, "We love you, Mohammed!" I'm glad the world is learning about what a wonderful person he was and how his family raised this person.

My deepest sympathies to Salman's family. It sounds like the world lost a wonderful human being in this cruel tragedy to all mankind.

The year 2009 is being ushered into the world with bloodshed in the M.E. I cannot imagine how one can celebrate while so many are burying their dead.

Peace in 2009, Inshallah. Peaceful New Year.

Happy Birthday, Salman. You are 31 years old today. We here are all together: Vinnie, Athar, Adeel, Adnan, Zeshan.

Love you,

Remember, Nano said you would make a great name in the world one day because at 4 months old, you would look at your palms. Nano said you see your destiny, and you would always ask me, "How will I make a name, Mama?" I had no answer then because that is all she said. Now we all know how you symbolize the values of humanity and compassion.

I want to reach out to all those who knew Salman to please write a note about him and email it to me at tghamdani (at) aol (dot) com. I am contemplating writing a book on him. Your contributions will reflect another perspective of Salma, whom I knew as a son.

To the Hamdani family-

I never knew or met Salman. Yet I feel that we have so much in common, that if we had met, we definitely would have been friends, if not brothers.

I have followed Salman's story beginning very soon after 9/11. It is a story of tragedy and triumph. It symbolizes and combines the American dream with the charitable values and principles of Islam. Salman was a true American-Muslim hero!

I have paid my respects to Salman and his deeds by telling his story to everyone who has asked me about 9/11. Salman is a great symbol of the American-Muslim community, and I hope we can do more to better honor Salman's memory.

Mohammad Ali

Post your memorial thoughts:

Share your feelings and memories of grief and sadness concerning the 9-11-2001 attack, or of positive memories.  If you knew this person, help us to build a small 'bio' of the person and share with us something about his/her life:

  • what kind of person he/she was,
  • what nice points you remember about him/her,
  • what kind of relationship you had with him/her,
  • what you two perhaps did together,
  • what he/she meant to you,
  • or other things about him/her might be especially encouraging for other people.

This web site is intended solely as a means of allowing all of us to express our grief and sympathy in behalf of the people who lost their lives, and also our love and compassion towards those who lost loved ones and friends in the 9/11/01 tragedy. The site is strictly for memorial mentions of those who passed away in the tragedy, not of other people who have passed away.

Our hearts are very touched with concern in behalf of those people, and it is to them that we dedicate this web site. It is not our intent to venture into the realms of WHO should face judgement, to take responsibility for those terrible events, because we have no way of knowing for sure who all might fall into that category. Therefore, any letters or notes written passing judgment upon any person or group will not be published on this site. We do NOT want this site to be a base for expressions of hatred, but only for expressions of LOVE!
